Departmental Objective

  • The Freeman Center is the focal point for Christopher Newport University's indoor sport, recreation and health and wellness services along with providing a place for the university community to meet and for students to perform. The goal for this facility is to offer a quality "indoor" venue for athletic teams during Conference and NCAA competition, support the personal development and wellbeing of the members of the University community, and expand the reach of the University to the local, regional and National spotlight.
    Purpose of the Position
  • This position will ensure the cleanliness of assigned areas by performing various housekeeping duties. It will also oversee the work of assigned housekeeping workers. Additionally, this position will assist in maintaining inventory and distribution of supplies.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Related to Position
  • Thorough knowledge of cleaning methods and cleaning supplies
  • Skilled in the use of housekeeping equipment such as vacuum cleaner, buffers and scrubber machines
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to direct work assignments
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to maintain positive relations with faculty, staff and students
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs., tolerate frequent bending, stooping and climbing stairs
  • Ability to work 2nd shift hours, including weekends
    Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required

Education:


  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience:
  • Experience in performing housekeeping work
  • Experience using various types of housekeeping equipment
    Additional Consideration(s)

Experience:


  • Experience using machine and chemicals to clean, shampoo, strip and wax floors
  • Experience in supervision of housekeeping/janitorial personnel
  • Experience in training personnel
  • Experience working in a university setting
    Salary Information
  • Starting at $30,146, Commensurate with education and experience
