TITLE:
Summer Day Camp Driver


FUNCTION:
The driver is responsible for the safe transportation of individuals with disabilities to and from camp. Must be 21 years of age.


REPORTS TO:
Manager of Operations


SALARY:

Starting at $15/HRDAYS/HOURS:

Summer Position:
June 10 to July 25, 2024.


  • Monday-Thursday 7:00am9:30am, some midroutes, 2:305:00pm
hours per week, varies depending on the route


Duties & Responsibilities:


Essential Functions:

Vehicle Inspection (Pre/post trip inspection via Fleetio Go App on vehicle phone)

Utilize mirror station to adjust mirrors correctly

Be a courteous driving, following all rules of the road

Sweep vehicle

Fuel assigned vehicle at the end of each day at the City of Crystal Lake fuel area


Driving (Physical Demands)
Upper extremities and fine motor skills to adjust mirrors, operate gear shift, steering wheel and items on the dashboard.

Trunk and head rotation to check blind spots and look over shoulder.

Eye movement to monitor surroundings.

Hearing ability to notice emergency vehicles and any vehicle issues.

Grasp handle to operate door for entry of passengers or push button to open electric door

Use a pumping motion to operate the lift manually, if needed.


Transferring and Transporting of Participants
Driver may need to perform individual transfers. These are performed by lifting and/or assisting participants to stand, pivot, and lower to seat level.

Driver is responsible for making sure that every participant's seatbelt is secured. Driver may need to reach for the seatbelt, pull it across the participant's lap and latch the seatbelt.

Driver is responsible for loading and unloading program participants and transporting them to programs.

Driver may need to assist a participant who is ambulatory from his/her home to the vehicle and assist participants loading and unloading in and out of the vehicle.


Driver may need to push participants in wheelchairs onto the lift and operate the hydraulic lift (see manual for lift operation).

Drivers will need to maneuver the wheelchair to into the wheelchair station and secure with tie downs. Driver must be able to bend and twist in a tight location

Driver may need to lift participants in wheelchairs over curbs or barriers.

Record work hours in ADP via computer or smart phone


Criteria
Complete driver information form to obtain driving record from the state (eligible drivers will have no more than 2 moving violations in 36 months, see Transportation Manual for complete eligibility requirements)

Consent to drug screening

Must be 21 years of age

Schedule a vehicle orientation/training

Complete Defensive Driving on-line course via PDRMA

Attend annual safety day

Schedule bi-annual driver's audit

Possess NISRA Values

Demonstrate enthusiasm and empathy towards people

Demonstrate dependability and promptness


Assisting Staff Additional Duties:

  • Demonstrate professional attitude and quality customer service towards participants, parents, staff and general public as a representative of NISRA
  • Arrive at location 15 minutes before route starts
  • Communicate regularly with Manager of Operations
  • Ability to perform strenuous activity to include but not limited to physical transfer of participants with physical impairments, participant protection measures, loading and unloading equipment, and vigorous recreation activities
  • Notify Senior Manager of Support Staff immediately if any illness or injury that conflicts with camp responsibilities and/or attendance
  • Adhere to all NISRA guidelines for employment including policies, procedures, health and safety
  • Attend Driver Orientation
  • Perform related duties as required
