The
Director of Safety will provide leadership to the implementation of the company's safety efforts; to plan, implement and supervise the corporate safety program and ensure compliance with the company philosophy and all legal operating requirements.

This job classification requires strong knowledge of safety regulations, operations and systems, and the ability to implement and administer programs and guidelines which strategically support the company's mission and goals.


Responsibilities:


  • Plans, directs, and leads the implementation of the Corporation's Safety Plan, vehicle accident and work related injury loss reduction plans, and safety awareness/compliance programs
  • Leads comprehensive studies to monitor / analyze issues and emerging trends that impact driver safety and workplace accidents across all program operations and ensures effective solutions are developed and incorporated into policies and training programs
  • Ensures awareness of the Corporate Safety Plan goals, resolves safety performance issues, and encourages input into the development of innovative programs that ensures that each driver is the best trained and qualified for the job
  • Research new regulations and developments in the field of Transportation/Workplace Safety and recommend changes to the company's program
  • Write job specific (Commercial Driving/Operating) Safety plans
  • Conduct work area inspections and assists in major accident/injury/vehicle damage investigations
  • Oversee transportation safety issues to ensure company is in compliance with Department of Transportation regulations, Federal Motor Carrier Guidelines and Department of Motor Vehicles
  • Oversee random drug testing program and required documentation
  • Responsible for OSHA 300 / 300A logs and other required postings

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Bachelor's degree combined with relevant work experience (OSHA, STA)
  • Expertise in understanding of safety policies, practices, and regulations (Federal & State)
  • DOT (Department of Transportation), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), FTA (Federal Transit Administration), FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
  • Strong knowledge of regulations and legislation governing employment standards and health and safety in the workplace to ensure requirements are incorporated into strategies, programs, and performance measurement systems
  • Extensive knowledge of adult education principles (e.g. learning needs assessment, program design, development strategies, etc.)
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing, implementing, and evaluating leadingedge Transportation Safety Training programs and policies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to create and deliver training presentations
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
  • Demonstrated progressive experience in a Health and Safety or Systems Safety role

Compensation will be based on location and experience.
