- Ensure that Ellis is in compliance with all state and federal regulatory bodies by developing and maintaining all required documentation.
- Provides overall quality assurance and quality control in the Radiation Oncology treatment areas for both equipment and patients including oversight of special procedures (IMRT, HDR, LDR, prostate seeds implants, etc.) Performs calibration checks and surveys of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
- Functions as the Radiation Safety Officer and chairs the Radiation Safety Committee at both campuses. Provides in-service training for hospital personnel related to the safe use of ionizing radiation. Maintains the hospital radioactive materials license.
- Performs survey instrument calibrations as needed.
- Performs shielding calculations and acceptance testing of new equipment as needed. Makes recommendations for new equipment.
- Provides both dosimetry and treatment planning in Radiation Oncology including special procedures mentioned above.
- Designs treatment and plans for intracavitary and interstitial implant procedures and assists Physician with these procedures.
- Provides daily supervision of Dosimetry staff to ensure timely completion of treatment plans.
- Teach applied aspects of Medical Physics to Oncology staff and students.
- Participate and attend weekly Chart Rounds
- Prepare and lead quarterly QA meetings.

Description
Leads the technical expertise throughout the department to assure that the patients are treated as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist.
Consults and assists the Radiation Oncologist in determining optimal courses of treatment.As the leader of the Medical Physics group, supervises the Medical Physics staff and provides leadership guidance and oversight to Oncology Services to maintain an adequate quality assurance program.
Acts in the capacity of Radiation Safety Officer/MR Safety Officer for the institution.Behaves in a professional, customer-focused, service-oriented manner; displaying and promoting respect, care and dignity for all internal and external customers; facilitates a team-oriented attitude, striving continuously for service excellence.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):Master's degree required in Science, Physics, Radiation Science, or Medical Physics
Doctorate preferred
Part Two Board Certified Radiation Physicist (American Board of Radiology or American Board of Medical Physicists) required.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in clinical practice of Medical Physics required.
Must be qualified for State of New York Department of Health listing as a Radiation Safety Officer and Authorized Medical Physicist, required by State of New York for purposes of radioactive materials license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position is located indoors under normal working conditions. Should be able to push/pull 25 lb., lift/move 15 lb.
from floor to table, be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a key board, writing and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers.
Mobility requirements may include the ability to sit at a computer terminal or work station for a prolonged period of time in addition to being able to squat, stand and walk for a reasonable length of time and distance.
Sensory requirements include the ability to articulate and comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to read the English language.
