Position Description


Under general supervision, coordinate and assist with installation and maintenance of the digital media labs; interdepartmental coordination and communication; and provide frequent instructional assistance.

The Digital Media Lab Specialist will perform various technical tasks to ensure the smooth running and efficient operation of the lab.

They will coordinate/supervise upkeep of the lab equipment; assist instructors during classroom time by solving technical difficulties as they arise, working one-on-one with students, and occasionally providing assistance with classroom demonstrations.

While this is not a teaching position, per se, the Digital Media Lab Specialist will be working in a teaching environment where sensitivity to the needs of the instructors and students is of primary importance.


This technical position requires specific skills and expertise in the installation and maintenance of hardware and software relating to the digital media lab; skills and expertise in maintaining the liaison between the digital media lab and the college network environment; development and implementation of policies and procedures for the digital media lab; knowledge of current software and equipment for graphic design, multimedia, web, interactive, animation, 3D, and audio; knowledge of current artistic and design principles.


Responsibilities:


Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Instructional Assistance
Assist faculty and students in using media and technology resources.
Assist students in understanding the artistic and design principles required for successful project completion.
Assist faculty and students in accessing local and worldwide electronic information.
Assist faculty and students in preparing materials for dissemination.
Conduct lab orientations and answer student questions.

Prepare and disseminate information to students and faculty regarding procedures for outputting and scanning through vehicles such as presentations, demonstrations, and printed materials.

Advise faculty on individual student capabilities visvis use of advanced equipment.
Establish and maintain a system to ensure open lines of communication with faculty and students.
Maintain the lab's display cases per faculty and staff instructions.
Answer phone and perform other related duties as assigned.
Digital Media Lab(s)

Coordinate, supervise, and assist with the installation and documentation for new and existing graphic and multimedia software and hardware specific to the digital media lab.

Report and initiate appropriate corrective action to maintain the digital media lab and/or coordinate repairs with staff and Information Technology Services staff.

Develop and maintain equipment operation manuals and systems documentation
Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date records of equipment servicing and configuration.
Coordinate and consult with staff regarding software updates, enhancements, licensure, technical problems, and requests.
Monitor Digital Lab supplies and usage
Develop and implement a system to monitor hourly lab use by students and various departments.
Maintain lab supplies such as printing materials, CDR's, etc.
Monitor use of lab supplies by students, etc.


Qualifications:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds in a community college environment.

High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of recent experience with computer network systems software in Mac environments.
Demonstrated knowledge of current principles and practices of art, graphic design, web, and multimedia fields.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of new developments in digital technologies and software.
Demonstrated ability to schedule, coordinate, and work cooperatively with others, including students, instructors, and staff.
Experience in the use of technology to support classroom activities.
Demonstrated ability to keep accurate records, prioritize, and organize workflow.
Demonstrated ability to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair hardware and software.
Demonstrated skill at effective verbal and written communications.
Ability to work varied work hours.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Desirable Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Multimedia, or Studio Art with an emphasis in digital art and/or video.
