ORGANIZATION:

Area Agency on Aging and Community Action Agency for Northwest Indiana, founded in 1965, the
NWICA Mission is to ensure the people who experience financial hardship find opportunities, resources,
and respect. We do this by helping individuals of all ages and families, through direct services and
referrals.
Serving residents in Lake, Porter, Jasper, Newton, LaPorte, Pulaski, and Starke Counties


FUNCTION:

Reporting to the Manager of Homeless Resources, the Housing Navigator assists and advocates on
behalf of Homeless Resources Program participants to locate, secure, and retain affordable permanent
housing. The Navigator plans and coordinates services, identifies appropriate housing options, and
interacts with landlords and other organizations on behalf of participants. The Navigator uses a
comprehensive knowledge of housing and other supportive services to facilitate linkages before, during,
and/or after permanent housing has been established, and works with participants to enhance their
skills in utilizing these various resources. The Housing Navigator also serves as a general housing
resource for households served in other NWICA Services/Programs.
The Housing Navigator is expected to be an active participant in the agency's mission, vision, and values.
He/she shall work to ensure consistent, quality services to the agency's constituents, demonstrate
enthusiasm, initiative, and flexibility in assignments and maintain positive working relationships and
communication with all agency personnel, will be inclusive, communicative and will establish
himself/herself as a primary resource to those he/she supervises.
