Position Summary:
Supervising, training, and developing Dispatchers in the 9-1-1 Communications Center. Performing dispatch services by receiving, monitoring, recording, summarizing, and transmitting data to emergency response organizations. Updating NCIC, SCIC, and other records and files. Collaborating with IT Division to support 911 computer systems and liaising with State Police computer staff and vendors to troubleshoot issues. This role reports to the Communications Director and is an Essential Employee vital to the emergency service function of the division or department.

Essential Functions:
  • Assigning, directing, reviewing, and evaluating subordinate employees' work.
  • Planning work schedules to ensure an even flow of work and timely handling of cases.
  • Assigning tasks to provide new employees with necessary experience and training.
  • Instructing training classes for Public Safety Telecommunicators.
  • Supervising subordinates in managing emergency assistance requests.
  • Assisting in determining the nature of calls and transferring callers appropriately.
  • Supervising the use of various electronic devices to gather data.
  • Accessing interpreter services for non-English speaking callers.
  • Maintaining a reassuring manner with callers to obtain information.
  • Providing instructions during medical emergencies until professional help arrives.
  • Offering advice during non-medical emergencies to ensure safety.
  • Referring non-emergency situations to relevant agencies and dispatching personnel.
  • Utilizing equipment to receive, monitor, and transmit emergency data.
  • Dispatching law enforcement, fire, or medical units to emergencies.
  • Coordinating dispatching across government jurisdictions.
  • Facilitating communication with response units.
  • Taking corrective action during system errors and reporting malfunctions.
  • Updating emergency unit status and database records including NCIC and SCIC.
  • Answering inquiries related to law enforcement agencies from NCIC and SCIC.
  • Activating emergency alert systems and inspecting alarm panels.
  • Supervising report preparation and data inspection.
