- Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies, and equipment, assembles, wraps, and sterilizes trays of instruments. Follows proper standard precautions during decontamination and sterilization.
- Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency in decontamination.
- Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment promptly.
- Restocks, labels, maintains inventory, submits requisitions, and distributes instruments.
- Performs environmental maintenance duties, assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing and the operating room.
- Verifies equipment functions, requisitions maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of approved sterile processing course, certification as a sterile processing technician by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
- Prior experience in sterile processing preferred.
- Completion of approved sterile processing course, prior comparable experience in sterile processing, and/or certification as a sterile processing technician.
- If no applicants have experience, course completion and/or certification, other candidates may be considered, who will be required to schedule the first available certification examination within twelve (12) months of hire or transfer.
- Incumbent employees not already certified must obtain certification within twelve (12) months.
- Newly hired or transferred employees must obtain certification within twelve (12) months from the date of hire or transfer.
