Residential Aide


The role of a Domestic Violence Shelter Residential Aide is vital in providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals and families fleeing domestic violence situations.

Residential aides work directly within the shelter facility, offering assistance, guidance, and emotional support to shelter residents as they navigate through challenging circumstances.

They ensure the shelter operates smoothly, uphold safety protocols, and facilitate an atmosphere of empowerment and healing for survivors.


Essential Job Functions:


  • Monitor security cameras
  • Conduct searches as clients enter the facility using wands
  • Monitor the area and provide resources to clients
  • Maintain a welcoming, safe, stable environment for clients
  • Make hourly rounds within and outside the facility to ensure safety and security
  • Incident management: Report and document incidents, and crisis interventions, communicate with the oncall management team
  • Record keeping including documentation of daily attendance, shift reports, visitors, writing progress notes
  • Greet people, determine
    the nature and purpose of visit, and direct or escort them to specific destinations
  • Circulate among residents, visitors, or employees to preserve order and protect property
  • Complete intakes, and property searches as needed, distribute mail
  • Accept and log all food deliveries. Willingness to complete food safety course
  • Screen residents and visitors and packages to prevent
    the passage of prohibited articles into
    the residence
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications and SkillsRequired:


  • Understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence, sexual assault, FGM, trafficking and other forms of genderbased violence;
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity;
  • Understanding of trauma and ability to provide services through a traumainformed lens;
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills;

Preferable:


  • Proficiency in English and an additional language (Arabic, Pulaar, French, Bengali, Pashto, Urdu, Spanish, Uzbek etc.);

Compensation:

- $21 per hour for day shifts
- $23 per hour for night shifts

Experience:


  • Caregiving: 1 year (preferred)

License/Certification:

  • CPR Certification (preferred)

Ability to Commute:

  • New York, NY preferred)

Ability to Relocate:

  • New York, NY 10014: Relocate before starting work (preferred)
