Until FilledThe East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) is a public Career and Technical Education District (CTED) providing tuition-free career and technical education (CTE) programs to high school students - public, charter, and home-schooled - and tuition-based programs to adults who reside in 11 school districts in the East Valley of the Phoenix metropolitan area.

EVIT offers over 40 CTE programs at four centralized campuses.

Centralized campus programs provide two to four hours of hands-on training every day and prepare students for professional certification and licensing exams.

EVIT students who complete their training have a 98 percent high school graduation rate and 90 percent on average are in jobs related to their training, college or the military within a year.

Two out of three EVIT students go on to college.

Adjunct Practical Nursing Clinical Instructor with the East Valley Institute of Technology.


The salary for this position is $45/hour

Position Summary:


Under general supervision, the Practical Nursing Clinical Instructor will supervise and reinforce essential Practical Nursing skills to provide safe care in the nursing home environment, utilizing the Practical Nursing curriculum approved by the AZ State Board of Nursing.


Essential Functions:

  • Reinforces laboratory technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills required by the AZ State Board of Nursing in the Practical Nursing profession, reinforcing safe practice and techniques.
  • Instruct students on the importance of accuracy, neatness, efficiency, resourcefulness, and good work habits in obtaining employment in hospitals or other healthcare facilities.
  • Assigns activities in the clinical setting to evaluate the learning of students in technical knowledge and practical skills
  • Keeps records of daily attendance and student progress; reports to supervisor/registration office per District, school, and ADE requirements.
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, within the clinical setting; responds to basic student questions. Integrates critical thinking throughout the clinical experience.
  • Enforces clinical protocols, rules and regulations; maintains discipline; utilizes effective management techniques
  • Assists students to develop and implement effective clinical practices and techniques.
  • Ensures confidentiality of all program records and student information.
  • Discusses student progress and learning with student and classroom instructor at regular intervals. These evaluations will be used to aid in grading
  • Develops a strong understanding of school policies and procedures, BON requirements, etc.; upholds requirements and policies of the District
  • Establishes effective and cooperative working relationships with EVIT staff while monitoring student progress.

Skills and Abilities:


  • Working knowledge of instructional theory, basic educational principles, practices and methodologies, the development process, competencybased curricula, and general classroom and lab practices
  • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate levels of authority as well as create an atmosphere of support and confidence for students.
  • Possesses effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, students and the general public.
  • Ability to work effectively with all students regardless of age, ability level, handicap, sex, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status.
  • Ability to work independently and to manage work assignments in a highly interpersonal contact environment.
  • Ability to deal effectively with stress caused by workload, deadlines, and situations as they occur.
  • Must be tactful, have good interpersonal skills and sound judgment.

Instructional Environment:


  • The employee hired for this position will work varied hours, depending on clinical assignment. Hours could include weekends, evenings/nights, and some extended shifts (per clinical schedule).
  • The employee will interact with many types of personalities and other individuals, i.e., family members or friends who may be angry, difficult or indifferent. All these factors may contribute to a stressful environment, and therefore, while this work may be satisfying, it can also be emotionally draining
  • Clinical facility assignment will be provided for the Practical Nursing Clinical Instructor, where students may work with the teacher individually or ingroups. The employee may be exposed to dangerous chemicals or may operate hazardous equipment related to the clinical area
  • Applicable Arizona Statutes pursuant to Title 15 (Education), Title 13 (Criminal), and Title 38 (Public Officers and Employees) prevail.
