    Summary:
    Reporting to the Senior Dispatcher, the Dispatcher assumes the responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of Gallaudet University students, staff, and visitors.

    Job Description:
    • Receives incoming emergency or repair work requests, enters data into the computer, issues and prints work orders and distributes to appropriate Facilities unit for completion; makes immediate decisions regarding type and kind of emergency and contacts appropriate supervisor via phone or text and relays pertinent information; calls unusual work requests to the attention of the appropriate manager/supervisor for decision and/or review; and directs calls not relating to Facilities services to proper parties and/or numbers.
    • Issues and distributes computer-generated preventive maintenance work orders; and separates into appropriate trades and distributes to supervisors weekly.
    • Ensures that the Service Center provides an acceptable level of service to the Gallaudet community in accordance with standards set for Facilities.
    • Coordinates all prevention maintenance system work orders, as needed, to facilitate the needs of all units within Facilities.
    • Sends work orders to cell phones and sends emails to supervisors.
    • Provides telephone support for the management team and provides back-up telephone support for the Director's Office.
    • Makes weekly contacts to various departments, especially the President's residence and Vice President's office to ensure that the service provided by Facilities is at an acceptable level in accordance with Facilities standards.
    • Maintains an updated Facilities information services network for use in communication service outages, power reduction and other community service changes that impact the campus.
    • Establishes and maintains the departmental cell phone and call-in listings.
    • Monitors voice mail daily for unscheduled call-ins and notify appropriate personnel.
    • Promotes a sense of team spirit and cooperation among employees on a continual basis and strives to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
    • Interprets, places and/or receives telephone calls for hearing-impaired members of the unit in order to ensure an effective professional link between the campus community and internal/external associates.
    • Establishes and maintains good working relationships with members of the Gallaudet Community and the Facilities team.
    • Maintains communication with the Department of Public Safety to keep them abreast of any emergency campus outages and/or shutdowns.
    • Ensures appropriate coverage in the Service Center at all times.
    • Maintains secured files for all signed and completed work orders.
    • Serves as a mandatory Title IX reporter; and takes annual Title IX training as part of the compliance effort.
    • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
    Required Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • A minimum of one year of experience with scheduling, customer services, or a related field.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.

    Additional Position Details:
    • If the incumbent has no knowledge of American Sign Language, the incumbent is expected to achieve an ASLPI score of 1 plus within two years of employment. If the incumbent is hired with some knowledge of American Sign Language, the incumbent is expected to achieve an ASLPI score of 2 within two years of employment. The supervisor must ensure that the incumbent receives the necessary support to meet this goal.
