Principal - Dix Street Elementary**
STARTING DATE: School Year


Otsego Public Schools' staff is the heart of the district, and we are looking for a principal to lead one of our three elementary schools, Dix Street Elementary.


Primary tasks (non-exhaustive list):


  • Supervise and evaluate certified and classified personnel at the school site by providing regular and timely feedback.
  • Plan, coordinate, and evaluate the total program of student services including guidance, special education, counseling and community agencies.
  • Lead staff in evaluating and responding to the use of educational assessment data for the improvement of curriculum and instruction.
  • Establish and maintain a positive learning climate, including an effective discipline plan.

Requirements:


  • Masters Degree with emphasis in areas of administration, curriculum, reading, supervision or child development
  • Meet School Administrator continuing education requirements
  • Successful teaching experience required; administration experience strongly preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:

OPS ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL

CONTRACT: 10 month employee (43 weeks)


REPORTS TO:
Superintendent


LOCATION/DEPARTMENT:
OPS Elementary Building


All employees of the Otsego Public Schools, including the OPS Elementary Principal, are expected to display a positive, caring, nurturing attitude and a genuine desire to assist all students and staff when necessary to maintain a safe and orderly environment.


OPS Elementary Principal serves as the educational leader of the school, assumes responsibility for direction of the instructional program, operation of the building, participation in staff and student activities and community leadership.


RECOMMENDED EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
Masters Degree or above in educational leadership, curriculum or related field


EXPERIENCE:
Successful teaching experience required


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teachers, support staff, student teachers and volunteers.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, OR REGISTRATIONS:


  • Valid teaching certificate with at least four years teaching experience (elementary preferred)
  • Valid Michigan Administrator Certificate

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and evaluate certified and classified personnel at the school site by providing regular and timely feedback.
  • Interview, hire and train certified and support staff personnel.
  • Organize time and resources to ensure the completion of multiple tasks in a timely manner.
  • Assumes responsibility for the management of the facility.
  • Develop and monitor multiple budgets and resources, including grants, fundraising and student body accounts.
  • Monitor classroom instruction and make recommendations for its improvement.
  • Lead staff in evaluating and responding to the use of educational assessment data for the improvement of curriculum and instruction.
  • Analyze problems and make appropriate decisions.
  • Establish, implement and evaluate school policies that are consistent with District, State and Federal requirements.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and public relations with District, School site personnel, students, parents, businesses and community members.
  • Implement, monitor, and evaluate the instructional program that meets the diverse needs of all students and is consistent with the District, state and Federal policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain a positive learning climate, including an effective discipline plan.
  • Plan, coordinate, and evaluate the total program of student services including guidance, special education, counseling and community agencies.
  • Manage student placement and student activities, including supervision, assemblies, after school activities and special events.
  • Performs other functions and duties as assigned by the OPS Superintendent and/or Board of Education.
