Summary:

In conjunction with the Assistant Superintendent of Utility Operations, plans and supervises the work involved with operation, repair and maintenance of the Utilities Department assets.

Assists in the preparation of the budget and in the maintenance of essential data. Participates in all utility functions including customer call backs during business and off hours.

Work is performed under general direction from the Assistant Superintendent of Utilities, who reviews performance for conformance to departmental policies and procedures.

Duties:
Plans and supervises the maintenance program for the systems of the Utilities Department. Oversees repair operations, including excavation work and other functions required to correct faults in the water and/or sewer systems. Oversees the installation of additional equipment and piping for the potable water and sanitary sewer systems.

Trains personnel for water distribution repairs including road repairs, sidewalk/aprons, pipe repairs, water service repairs/replacement, potable water hydrant repairs/replacement and hydrant flushing, valve turning, etc.

Periodically inspects the distribution and pumping system to determine condition. Responsible for the ordering, storing, utilization and safeguarding of needed equipment and supplies. Gives assignments and instructions to subordinates and/or contractors. Assists the Licensed operator in the preparation of reports; assists in the preparation of the budget. Prepares and maintains Employee Time Sheets, Daily Attendance Sheets, and Work Reports. Responsible for the implementation and supervision of the distribution map updates/improvement documentation. Receives and responds to complaints from the public relating to Utility Department questions and complaints. Assures continuance of the sanitary sewer flushing and manhole inspection projects.

Within a reasonable amount of time, must be able to perform the following:

Diesel operations, power failure (bringing stations on-line), bringing wells back on-line after power failure, and emergency procedures of water distribution failures.

Salary Range:
$73,075 - $96,716 per year, plus full medical benefits.
