The Strategic Sales Manager will manage direct customer accounts and distributor sales as appropriate. In addition, the Strategic Sales Manager will be actively engaged in implementing the technical direction, growth, and strategic plan of the business. This includes contract negotiation and management, market development, reporting to management, and strategic positioning at a regional level with global coordination, as appropriate. The Strategic Sales manager will work closely with customer service, Supply Chain team members, the Commercial Manager, and Product Development team members. Other duties include:
Identify and secure new business as an expansion of the company's core competencies by leveraging industry contacts / relevant commercial experience.
Constantly generate new leads for core products and longer-term new business development.
Develop a short to mid-term plan (6-18 months) to grow business with the understanding of the current portfolio and pricing dynamics in the market.
Role is the primary contact for our customers as well as the point person for customer-related activities with internal staff.
Manage sales call scheduling. Both assigned as well as new accounts may require site visits; collaboration with peers is an expectation.
Schedule joint calls with internal technical, business development, sales, and management staff as appropriate for the business.
Responsibility for understanding the market trends and their impact on the business in the portfolio, the competitive analysis, and recommendations on how to counter. Obtaining a clear definition of competitive situations is an expectation.
Execute the business pricing strategy for customers and distributors (as appropriate) in clearly documented fashion. Pricing decisions are the responsibility of the Commercial Manager based on properly defined data supplied by the Strategic Sales Manager.
Monthly participation in rolling three month forecast development is a requirement; this will involve key customer contact to review upcoming three-month demand.
Responsible for the negotiation of contracts and their subsequent management, by collaboration with the customer and company leaders and legal staff.
Communicate progress to team on monthly basis through call reports, weekly status updates, and monthly presentations.
Establish multi-level relationships with key customers (minimum three deep).
Representing the company at industry-related events and meetings
Visits to plant site as needed and when appropriate
At a minimum, meet annual budget and volume / price commitments.
With the help of Customer Service and/or Commercial Manager, coordinate on-time payment by customers and credit limit reviews as business grows customer by customer.
Must be willing to travel extensively as needed in the US.
**Knowledge & Skills**
Requires a BS/BA degree in a technical field and 5+ years of commercial and or technical sales experience. Other desired skills, experiences and attributes include:
Experience in projects that required new product development and commercialization.
Proven ability to innovate and improve upon existing business practices
Strong interpersonal skills
Experience and track-record for working in a team-based environment.
Strong negotiation skills.
Strong experience in overcoming objections.
Previous experience in compounding plastics desired
Demonstrates high level skills in Microsoft Office Suite preferred, especially in Excel and PowerPoint.
Comfortable with communicating internally via Microsoft Teams; externally via Microsoft Teams, WebEx, and Zoom.
