Summary of the Position:
The Procurement Category Manager is responsible for timely, efficient, ethical, and cost-effective negotiation and purchasing for material and services.**:


Functions Performed:


  • Develops purchasing strategy, in conjunction with Director of Packaging Procurement, for each category assigned.
  • Participates in strategic sourcing including vendor selection, contract and price negotiation for packaging for all JBSS facilities to ensure uninterrupted supply and competitive pricing.
  • Ensures contracts with vendors are documented and consistent with corporate objectives under the direction of the Director, Procurement.
  • Manages Supplier Scorecards for key suppliers and solicits input from internal stakeholders to ensure cross functional alignment on preferred suppliers. Maintains Vendor Deficiency Log (SQF Requirement).
  • Tracks and communicates industry price trends and competitive situations to senior management.
  • Is responsible for purchasing/replenishment of packaging raw materials, packaging supplies, and services that are within the Category Manager's scope.
  • Coordinates purchasing activities with other departments to ensure proper inventory levels are maintained.
  • Coordinates purchasing activities with Sales/Marketing/Creative Services for package and/or graphics redesigns.
  • Coordinates new package design, development, qualification and implementation with vendors and internally.
  • Develops and documents policies and procedures to improve purchasing efficiencies.

Qualifications:


Education, Experience, and Knowledge:


  • Bachelor of Arts/Science degree in business discipline preferred.
  • Five plus years of experience in packaging purchasing required.

Skills and Competencies:


  • Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Quality planning, project management skills, and ability to work with other departments necessary.
