The Essen Correctional Facility is a closed adult correctional institution of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia with 528 prison places. It is responsible for the execution of prison sentences for male convicts with a sentence of up to 36 months from the district courts of Essen, Düsseldorf, Duisburg, and Krefeld. It also carries out pre-trial detention from the Essen regional court district. In addition, it executes extradition and transit detention as well as civil detention. Currently, there are 237 employees working at the Essen Correctional Facility.

Your tasks:

The Psychiatric Intensive Treatment of Prisoners in Correctional Facilities (PIB) is primarily aimed at patients with a very high risk of decompensation and aims to avoid inpatient (re)admissions and facilitate the reintegration of those affected into prison life. The necessary treatment measures must be designed and implemented for the first time, so that participation in fundamental issues is also possible.

In addition to general nursing duties in the medical care of inmates, the PIB includes the following specific tasks / activities:

  • Support of the specialist visit
  • Support of adult prisoners in gaining and promoting their ability to act
  • Support of the PIB representative
