    Work Shifts

    Job Description
    1. Provides clinical supervision, as assigned for Therapists, Technicians, and Equipment Management staff.
    2. Assesses the workload on a daily basis. Assigns staff in accordance with their role and privileges. Ensures coverage of all patient care units. Provides direct patient care services as determined by staffing pattern.
    3. Assist in planning, development, and coordination of the following activities:

    a. Performance Improvement

    b. lnservice educational reviews for all team health care providers including physicians, nurses, patient care technicians, and students.

    c. Equipment management and Environment of Care activities.

    d. Management of Information.

    e. Completes Performance evaluations
    4. Provides patient care services according to the physician's prescription and care plan.
    5. Monitors on a daily basis: equipment and supply needs, medical gas and systems status, staffing, the environment of care, patient care plans, and QI/Pl activities.
    6. Evaluates, investigate, and report all incidents related to the provision of respiratory care services.
    7. Demonstrates competence in the provision of all aspects of respiratory care services.
    8. Provides clinical instruction and supervision for procedures associated with high risk.
    9. Document all assessments and recommendations in the hospital-approved electronic medical record.
    10. Ensure all charges for respiratory services rendered are entered in the electronic medical record.
    11. Provide in-services and education as needed to clinical staff, patients and patient families.

    Minimum Qualifications
    1. Graduation from an Associate Degree program in Respiratory Therapy approved by the New York State Board of Education or a program determined equivalent in accordance with the Commissioner of the State Board of Education's regulations; and,
    2. Possession of a current license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of New York; and,
    3. Possession of current registration as a Respiratory Therapist issued by the National Board of Respiratory Care.

    Special Notes:
    Individuals providing respiratory therapy services in New York on or after January 1, 1994 who believe they will meet, and submit documented evidence from the State Education Department, Division of Professional Licensing Services, of receipt of an application for licensure under the so-called grandparenting provisions of the new licensing law may continue to practice until either December 31, 1994 or receiving notice from the State Education Department of denial of licensure, whichever occurs first.
    At the time of appointment, and to maintain the position of Associate Respiratory Therapist, individuals must meet and maintain the licensure requirements set forth by the New York State Education Department covering the practice of respiratory therapy.
