Position Description

The bus driver picks up guests at designated stops, safely transports guests to and from remote parking to restaurants, and maintains the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the bus itself.

Activities & Responsibilities

Primary:


  • Report any bus malfunctions or needed repairs.
  • Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations, using telephones or mobile twoway radios.
  • Drive gasoline, diesel, or electrically powered multipassenger vehicles to transport guests and staff between neighborhoods, schools, and restaurants.
  • Check the condition of a vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in working order.
  • Comply with traffic regulations in order to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Follow safety rules as guests and staff are boarding and exiting buses, and as they cross streets near bus stops.
  • Pick up and drop off guests and staff at regularly scheduled neighborhood locations, following strict time schedules.
  • Read maps, and follow written and verbal geographic directions.
  • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort.
  • Keep bus interiors clean for passengers.
  • Maintain knowledge of firstaid procedures.
  • Maintain order among pupils during trips, in order to ensure safety.
  • Make minor repairs to vehicles.
  • Prepare and submit reports that may include, hours worked, mileage, fuel consumption, and/or fares received.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates specific knowledge of all rules of the road.
  • Demonstrates quick response time.
  • Exhibits cautious and responsible driving habits.
  • Demonstrates ability to read and interpret maps.
  • Can effectively use GPS technology.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with guests and coworkers.
  • Possesses knowledge of basic first aid procedures.
  • Is capable of acting quickly and calmly in a crisis.
  • Demonstrates ability to remain focused and attentive at all times.

Education and Experience

  • Must successfully pass written, vision, and skills test at DMV.
  • First aid training and certification required.
  • High school diploma or GED strongly preferred.

Work Environment

  • Working hours will be spent on the bus.
  • Road conditions may be hazardous, especially in the event of inclement weather.
