    IonQ is developing the world's most powerful full-stack quantum computer based on trapped-ion technology.

    Quantum computing has the potential to impact every area of human society for the better. IonQs computers will soon redefine industries like medicine, materials science, finance, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cryptography, and more. IonQ is at the forefront of this technological revolution. The salary range for this position is $133,046 - $174,192.We are looking for a Staff Quantum Simulation Engineer.

    As a Staff Simulation Engineer, youll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the worlds best quantum computers to solve the worlds most complex problems.

    In this role, you will primarily perform gate level simulations of the trapped ion quantum computer. You will help benchmark and characterize the system performance against various noise models.

    You will work with the engineering team to perform gate level analysis of the current and next generation quantum systems and integration of the simulation software with the rest of the software stack.

    You will also help build, maintain and test software infrastructure necessary to enable circuit simulations at scale.


    Responsibilities:


    Develop methods and algorithms for approximate or exact gate level simulation of quantum circuits of next generation architecturesSimulate and analyze circuits to examine performance against various noise modelsBenchmark and evaluate performances of various circuit simulation algorithms Document and communicate technical findings to the engineering teamIntegrate gate level simulation with other softwares in the simulation stackContribute to the automation, testing and parallelization of the simulation workflow Youd be a good fit with:PhD in Quantum Physics, Engineering or a related field with minimum 3 years of experienceExperience in quantum computing simulations either at the gate or pulse levelPython programming for scientific computingYoud be a great fit with:PhD in Quantum Physics, Engineering or a related field with minimum 5 years of experienceExperience with many-body physics and algorithms, matrix product state and tensor network methodsExperience with open quantum systems and quantum error correction/mitigation algorithmsExperience running large scale simulations on CPU/GPU clustersExperience with parallel programming in Python/C++Experience with AMO physics and trapped ion systemsExperience with scripting and automating workflows in high-performance computing environmentsLocation:This position is located in our newest facility in Bothell, WA.Our HQ is located in College Park, Maryland and we are a 15 minute metro ride from Washington DC.

    We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in the Seattle, Washington area.

    Depending on the position, you may be required to be located in Washington DC, Seattle, Washington or the Toronto, Canada area.

    However, IonQ will be expanding into additional geographies both domestically and internationally so dont let this stop you from applying.

    The base pay component of the offer will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
