What You'll Do:


  • The Finance Associate is responsible for the development and analysis of KIPP SoCal's financial information, including key areas of budgeting, financial planning and reporting. This position will report to the Director of Finance.

Key responsibilities will include:

1. Perform financial modeling and analysis to ensure the schools' and region's financial health.

Activities include but are not limited to:

  • 1a. Support the formulation of annual budgets and longterm forecasts, including revenue and expense forecasting, budget planning, capital spending analysis, and balance sheet analysis in conjunction with the Director of Finance.
  • 1b. Review and support the maintenance of the rolling 12month cash flow model on a monthly basis, including payroll review, coding reclassifications, endofyear projections, and budgettoactual comparisons.
  • 1c.
Perform analyses, as required, on various financial and operational issues such as:

evaluation of third-party versus in-house service provisions; vendor and contract comparisons; and measures of operational effectiveness, and then use these analyses to recommend potential cost savings measures.


  • 1d. Develop effective tools for the Management Team, Finance Committee and Board to use to monitor, assess, and evaluate the financial performance and structure of KIPP SoCal Public Schools.

2. Drive Day-to-day Financial Operations for the SST and schools with responsibilities in the areas of budgeting, performance assessment, and reporting.

These areas include but are not limited to:

  • 2a. Support the preparation of timely monthly financial statements and updating budget trackers.
  • 2b. Support the preparation of timely and relevant management reports that provide insights into the organization's performance against its financial plans and related financial health.
  • 2c. Support the preparation of financial reports for the Board and Finance Committee, lenders, authorizers, state and federal agencies, and donors
  • 2d. Collaborate with various SST teams to develop specialized subbudgets, update financial assumptions & projections, and produce adhoc financial reports.
  • 2e. Manage and route the Finance & Accounting helpdesk tickets and provide high quality customer service to our team members with Finance & Accounting related issues.

3. Serve as a valued thought partner to others in the organization, including the CFO, Director of Finance, School Leaders, and School Business Operations Managers

  • 3a. Contribute to increasing the financial literacy and business acumen of the organization.
  • 3b. Participate in regular budget meetings with School Leaders, School Business Operations Managers, and regional personnel to discuss and analyze expenditures, and modify projections.
  • 3c. Partner with School Business Operations Managers as their budget management advisor and develop their ability to meet budget targets.

You'll Be Qualified If You Have:


  • BA or BS from an accredited institution
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in a financial or data analysis role preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google sheets
  • Detail‐ and results‐oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done accurately and on a timely basis
