Camp Helen Keller is looking for the 2024 season of Camp Counselors Make memories of a lifetime working in a rewarding and exciting environment with children at our LI Summer Camp located in Brookville, NY.

Summer camp Counselor
Responsible for the execution of HKS's Mission, goals, and objectives through the overall operation of Camp Helen Keller. Other duties may be assigned or requested by his/her immediate supervisor and/or the Director of the Department.


Counselors are expected to utilize the training received at orientation to support the social-emotional development of the children enrolled in the program.

This includes not only monitoring the campers, but also being constantly, and actively engaged in the activities and events, organized by the activity leaders including but not limited to:
outdoor sports, swimming, music & dance, arts & crafts, technology, and various field trips.

In addition, staff members are expected to encourage campers to master independent living skills, based on their individual needs and abilities.


The Camp Counselor in this position may be expected to work Monday through Friday, various hours based on busing needs for the Helen Keller Camp and Community Habilitation programs.

The Camp Counselor is expected to be responsible, flexible, and dependable.

The Camp Counselor is also exposed regularly to individuals who have varying degrees of intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, as well as physical disabilities.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency required.
  • College students seeking degrees in education, child development, social work, or a related field. High School juniors and seniors may be considered. Preferred prior experience working with children and/or adolescents.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Required: Fluent in English

Job Types:
Full-time, Temporary


Pay:
$ $21.00 per hour


Expected hours:
No less than 30 per week


Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday

  • Greenvale, NY 11548: Relocate before starting work (required)
