Medical Assistant (MA)

Summary:

The MA is the first point of care contact for our patients.

From greeting patients in the lobby, performing rooming activities, and ensuring provider orders are carried out, the MA prioritizes the patient experience at every step.

Additionally, the MA will prepare the provider for the encounter, administer injectable medications and vaccines, breathing tests, sub-maximal walking tests, and perform patient education.

Phlebotomy may be required.


This role:


Welcomes patients in the lobby and during the check-in process, encourages patients to feel engaged, welcome and empowered to participate with us in their care.


Educate, coach and encourage patients in various techniques that facilitate their care at home, including but not limited to inhaler teaching, medical device training, and home sputum collection coaching.


Performs and records in the electronic medical record (EMR) clinical intakes including vital signs measurements, medication reconciliation, past history recording.

Ensures all pre-visit patient data are up-to-date in the EMR before the provider enters.

Cleans surfaces in exam rooms between patients.

Ensures uninterrupted availability of supplies to the exam rooms by inventory, record keeping, and restocking when supplies are low and/or on weekly basis.

Assists providers in office-based procedures, set-up and clean-up of procedures.

Administer injectable medications and vaccines per protocol.

Manage the "in-basket" and incoming faxes from the EMR. Delegate tasks to the appropriate staff if not the responsibility of the MA.

Enter for signature confirmation refills and orders per protocol in the EMR.

May perform waived and/or non-waived Point of Care Testing.

Uses knowledge and skill to care for adult and geriatric patients in a health care delivery system.


Assists with ancillary office services such as scheduling follow-up appointments, checking in patients, confirming proper consents and documentation are obtained prior to encounter.

Communicate with third-party vendors and Durable Medical Equipment companies to ensure completion of orders from our office.

The practice will serve adult ambulatory patients exclusively, delivering excellent and evidence-based care to patients with chronic lung and sleep disorders, ranging from mild to severe.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


Required:
One year of practical medical assisting experience

Required:
Willing to be Certified within six months of hire

Required:
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred:
Graduate of a medical assistant program

Preferred:
Certified by one of the entities listed below


CERTIFICATION with one of the following:
American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) for Certified Medical Assistants (CMA)

American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) for Clinical Medical Certification (CMAC)

American Medical Technologists (AMT) for Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)

National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) for Nationally R
