    POSITION SUMMARY

    This position is part of a job classification in a four level Fleet Maintenance progression series. Performs repairs, maintenance, and operational activities for automotive equipment, heavy equipment and vehicles used in support of City operations to include automobiles, fire engines, and other power-driven and mechanical equipment.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Performs general overhaul of equipment including disassembly as required, repairing or replacing damaged or malfunctioning parts or mechanical units on vehicles, light and heavy duty equipment, and tools
    • Setup and operates vehicle testing and diagnostic equipment to determine the cause of mechanical problems
    • Performs skilled diagnostic repair and maintenance on a variety of gasoline, diesel, and electrical equipment, hydraulic systems, airbrakes, engines, transmissions, and all associated vehicular systems
    • Realigns and adjust brakes; repair and replace carburetors, fuel pumps, fuel injection systems, strainer, fuel lines, gasoline tanks and gauges, radiators, water pumps and hoses
    • Determines needed parts materials and labor for overhaul, rebuild, or repair
    • Operates a variety of machinery, heavy equipment and tools associated with the repair, maintenance and inspection of operations
    • Schedules and conducts preventive maintenance and troubleshooting inspections, evaluates conditions, determines extent of repair work and performs service on City-owned motorized and mechanical equipment
    • Maintains record of services performed and assist with writing shop repairs orders
    • Ensures that cleanliness, filling, adjustments, settings, replacements and repairs are done correctly and precisely in accordance with technical manuals, specifications or instructions
    • Trains employees on maintenance, operation and upkeep of vehicles and equipment
    • Operates and maintains complex diagnostic instrumentation, equipment, and testing devices
    • Maintains specifications for all Fleet maintenance vehicles
    • Monitors and maintains accountability of assigned supplies and equipment used in operations
    • Abides by all policies, procedures, and rules associated with the City's Safety Program and monitors compliance of safe work practices and procedures
    • Performs on call duties and must be able to work the allocated hours of the position and be willing to report for duty while on call in compliance with on call policy

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Documentary evidence of graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of the General Education Development Test

    SUMMARY OF EMPLOYEE BENEFITS

    PART I: INSURANCE

    The City of Rosenberg offers health and life Insurance to all full-time employees with eligibility beginning on the first (1st) day of the month following date of employment.

    The City has implemented a premium incentive deduction for all employees enrolled in the City's health insurance program, who have not used tobacco products in any form in the past three months and continue to not use tobacco products.

    • Average premium starts around $16.15 per pay period per Pet
    (5) LIFE AND AD&D INSURANCE:
    The City automatically provides Basic Life Insurance for all eligible employees at no cost. Basic Life Insurance is $25,000 with no option to add additional coverage. The benefit is paid to your beneficiaries in the event of your death.

    (6) LONG TERM DISABILITY:
    The City provides employees with Long Term Disability in the amount of 60 percent of your salary (depending on position category) to a maximum of $5,000 per month. Benefits begin after 90 days of disability and may continue to Social Security Normal Retirement Age (SSNRA). Benefits will be offset by any payments from SS, Workers Comp and other income offsets.

    (7) WORKERS' COMPENSATION:
    All employees are covered under the Texas Workers' Compensation Insurance program through the Texas Municipal League. Eligibility for benefits is automatic and effective on the date of hire.

    (8) SUPPLEMENTAL TERM & WHOLE LIFE, CANCER & AD&D INSURANCE:
    The City of Rosenberg offers you a variety of voluntary benefits. If you enroll, you pay the full cost of coverage and are able to use a payroll deduction.

    PART II: SAVINGS PLANS

    (9) TEXAS MUNICIPAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM (TMRS):
    Participation in the system is mandatory for all regular full-time employees. Each employee contributes at a rate of 7 percent of his/her gross wages. The City contributes to each employee's account at a 2:1 ratio. Vesting is 5 years of service. Retirement is 20 years of service at any age or 5 years of service at the age of 60.

    (10) DEFERRED COMPENSATION 457(K) PLAN:
    Plans available through MissionSquare Retirement, DearBorn & Creggs, and Nationwide Retirement Solutions. Employees may enroll at the time of hire and throughout the year.

    (11) SECTION 125/FLEXIBLE BENEFITS PLAN:
    Allows you to contribute pre-tax salary into an account to be used to pay certain medical, dental, vision, and hearing care expenses not covered by insurance for yourself or a dependent within the meaning of Section 152(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. Dependent childcare is also available.

    PART III: HOLIDAYS/LEAVE

    (12) HOLIDAYS:
    New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr Day, Memorial Day, Good Friday, Independence Day, Labor Day, Fort Bend County Fair Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday following Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and two (2) Personal Holidays

    (13) VACATION:
    Accrued vacation may be taken following the six-month probation period.

    (14) SICK LEAVE:
    Sick leave is earned at the rate of one day per month. Firefighters will accrue 1⁄2 shift per month. For the purpose of computing sick time credit during the first year of employment, credit is given for the first month provided the employment date is the 15th of the month or earlier.

    (15) LONGEVITY PAY:
    Begins after one year of service. $7.50 per month will be provided for each year of service rendered to the City. Longevity pay is an addition to your base salary and is paid annually, in December.

    PART IV: MISCELLANEOUS PROGRAMS

    (16) EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP):
    Available through Dear Oaks EAP, provides assistance for employees and their immediate family members in the event of an emotional, family, legal, medical, substance abuse and/or financial problem. The EAP is available at no cost to the employee.

    (18) EMPLOYEE AWARDS LUNCHEON:
    Each December the City holds its annual employee Awards Luncheon. Lunch is provided and various awards are given out.
