    JOB PURPOSE:

    The CMM Programmer/Metrologist has two primary responsibilities:

    • CMM management and operation to support First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR's) and ongoing inspection of parts;
    • the management of all inspection and testing equipment at L&T Precision.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Reviews CAD models/blueprints to determine inspection requirements.
    • Prepares CMM programs to generate reports required for FAIR preparation.
    • Prepares CMM programs to support ongoing production inspection requirements.
    • Measures parts to collect data required for FAIRs and production inspection.
    • Qualifies measurement and test methods, where required.
    • Provides support to Quality and Manufacturing Engineering, as required.
    • Drives efficiency improvements in the metrology function.
    • Manages the calibration program for all inspection, measurement and testing equipment, ensuring that equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
    • Works with Quality Engineer to identify measurement and testing methodologies and new equipment required.
    • Provides training to personnel on the safe and correct operation of measurement and testing equipment, including the CMM.
    • Adheres to all applicable company policies and procedure.
    • Adheres to all company safety policies and regulations at all times.
    • Other duties may be assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Minimum of 10 years programming experience for CMM parts, preferably in the defense and aerospace industries.
    • Certification in Hexagon CMM is desirable.
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Ability to work as part of a team to meet deadlines.
    • Experience in the operation of DISCUS software is highly desirable.
    • Experience in creation of FAIR's that conform to the requirements of AS9102 is highly desirable.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The metrologist has no direct reports but is responsible for ensuring training personnel that operate inspection, measurement and test equipment, including the CMM.

    SKILLS / ABILITIES:

    • Excellent computer skills required.
    • Abe to read and understand engineering drawings/blueprints.
    • Able to understand Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT)
    • Must be proficient in the use and application of CAD/CAM software and principles.
    • Ability to create CMM measurement programs.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Good math skills.
    • Knowledge of machine shop/sheet metal fabrication.
    • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • While performing duties of this job, the employees is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
    • Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
    • Prolonged viewing of computer monitors and screens.
    • Repetitive motion (use of mouse and keyboard).
    • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or protective gear is required.
    • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, humid condition, fumes or airborne particles, flying metal burrs and chips and possible chemical irritants such as water-based coolants, hydraulic oils, degreasing soap and mineral spirit.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
