THE POSITION:
In this position you will participate in training work to develop practical proficiency in the use of civil engineering knowledge, skills and abilities in bridge engineering, transportation engineering, civil structural engineering, hydraulic engineering or geotechnical engineering environment.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
This is training work used to develop practical proficiency in the use of engineering knowledge, skills and abilities in a bridge engineering, transportation engineering and/or soils engineering environment; upon successful completion of the trainee period, this position could be permanently assigned in either Design, Construction, or Maintenance.
Performs a variety of duties designed to develop technical skills and proficiency in the field of civil engineering, such as: surveying; drafting and designing; construction and materials inspections; traffic control and traffic planning and various maintenance operations.
Serves as a member of a survey party to learn and perform a variety of duties in conjunction with preliminary, construction, and final surveys; receives instructions in the use of all surveying instruments, in reading plans and blueprints, and in the principles of surveying.
Participates in the preparation of construction plans for roads, bridges and other engineering structures by plotting alignments, profiles, topography, depicting terrain and its effect on structural support or performing miscellaneous other drafting and detailing assignments; prepares plans for piles, footings, foundations, and other steel and concrete members necessary to support the structural design, computes or checks computations for design geometric or pre-construction estimates of project material quantities.
Assists in traffic control studies pertaining to speed restrictions, passing areas, accident investigations, signalization, signing, or similar studies. Participates in County Maintenance projects during various seasons of the year. Performs related work as required.
Work is assigned by the unit the employee is in at the time. Work is reviewed on a continuous basis. Also, written evaluations are submitted when the employee completes training in each unit, and also quarterly.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Fulltime employment.
- Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday
- Friday, with a 30minute lunch.
Telework:With supervisory approval, you may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. Telework eligibility will be limited during the probationary period.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY:
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of civil engineering experience, and an EngineerinTraining certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists;
or: - A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or in a closely related field, which includes or was supplemented by major course work in civil engineering;
or: - An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes possession of an EngineerinTraining certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within nine months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Conditions of Employment:
- This position also requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.

- PA residency requirement is currently
waived for this title. - You must be able to perform essential job functions.
