    Description
    Prepares case files for prosecution.
    Attends preliminary hearings on all felony cases.

    Obtains police reports and transcripts; obtains investigators' observations; obtains crime lab reports, photos, and evidence; runs criminal background checks; obtains medical records.

    Prepares discovery information for defense counsel.
    Interviews victims and witnesses.
    Prepares for motion hearings.
    Transports evidence to crime labs.
    Testifies before the Grand Jury.

    Prepares cases for trial; verifies that subpoenas have been served to all witnesses; obtains all evidence needed for the case while observing chain of custody procedures; interviews and reviews the case file with witnesses; obtains certified court records; makes documents for court presentation including maps or photos.

    Oversees the maintenance of an assigned vehicle.
    Assists in the administration of department files.
    Performs other related duties as assigned.
    Knowledge of the Rules of Evidence and of the Georgia Criminal Code.
    Knowledge of the practices and procedures of criminal investigation.
    Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws.
    Skill in criminal investigation procedures.
    Skill in the use of assigned firearms.
    Skill in negotiation and persuasion.
    Skill in using basic office equipment and computerized research resources.
    Skill in public and interpersonal relations.

    Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

    Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.

    Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

    Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

    The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table. The employee must occasionally lift light objects.
