    Designated Supervisor for Locomotive Engineers (DSLE) at Alstom

    Job Description:

    • Manage engine and train service crews to ensure safe and efficient locomotive and train operations in specific areas.
    • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to engineers/conductors while overseeing operations according to regulations.
    • Ensure adherence to various rules, regulations, and guidelines in movement of trains and equipment.
    • Develop, train, and implement Title 49, CFR, Part 240/242 Plans in coordination with the Assistant General Manager of Rail Operations.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:


    • Monitor employee compliance with regulations and operational practices.
    • Manage employees to optimize OTP and suggest performance enhancements.
    • Respond to service disruptions within designated area.
    • Enforce safety protocols and provide reports as necessary.
    • Interview, select, and oversee new-hire locomotive engineers/conductors.

    Skills/Abilities:

    • Effective English communication skills for oral and written reports.
    • Strong leadership capabilities and interpersonal skills.
    • Familiarity with FRA Regulations on operating rules GCOR, and other industry-specific regulations.
    • Knowledge of CPUC and ADA requirements.
    • Ability to handle emergency situations and time pressures confidently.
    • Proficient in operating various Locomotive engines safely and in compliance with guidelines.
    • Certified Locomotive Engineer.

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Business, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
    • Locomotive Engineer Certification.
    • Completed approved GCOR Training Program in the last 3 years.
    • Minimum 2 years' supervisory experience in an FRA regulated railroad.
    • At least 7 years of experience as a railroad engineer for an FRA regulated railroad.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to conduct inspections and lift objects up to 50 lbs.
    • Work both indoors and outdoors for prolonged periods.
    • Occasional desk work and computer usage.
    • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.

    Other Requirements:

    • Valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record.
    • Pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug test.
    • Availability to work 24/7.

    Pay Range:


    $110,000.00 to $140,000.00 annually based on experience and qualifications.
