Summary:


The Environmental Sustainability (ES) Manager position is multifaceted and collaborative, helping to guarantee that RUSH upholds environmental standards and takes bold steps towards decreasing our environmental footprint.

It is a role that enables somebody to make a real difference in the way RUSH impacts the environment through supporting the ES Department strategies that reduce ecological damage, promote long-term sustainability, and improve human health.

Working alongside the Director of Environmental Sustainability, the ES Manager supports a wide variety of projects around the development, implementation, promotion, and active monitoring of sustainability strategies at RUSH.

The ES Manager works across all of the ES Team s five pillars of impact by owning all data collection, organization, and analysis, as well as synthesis of that data into a variety of reports, communications, internal/external reporting obligations, and continuous improvement projects.

Exemplifies the RUSH mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with RUSH policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
Five+ years of environmental/sustainability experience required.
Extensive data management and analysis experience required.
Two+ years of experience managing staff and/or volunteers.
Savvy with Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
Has the ability to plan and prioritize multiple, concurrent deadlines and think strategically.

Broad knowledge and appreciation of the key aspects of sustainable development, with particular emphasis on life sciences and the associated business impacts.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a desire to provide quality reports and sound advice.
Science Communication experience, and the ability to make technical scientific concepts/research accessible to all.
A proven ability to engage with colleagues at all levels across an organization with the enthusiasm to drive change.
Strong change management skills with an open minded, constructive, and collaborative approach to colleagues.
Must be reflective and able to come up with solutions that can solve complex problems.
Experience in healthcare sector strongly preferred


Responsibilities:

Manages the collection of all sustainability-related data from a wide variety of internal and external sources
- including, but not limited to data from utilities consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, hospital operations, waste generation and landfill diversion, procurement, and more.

Creates and actively owns a central data management system for all ES-related data that also includes information on data sources, points of contact, frequency of collection, and other pertinent background details.

Collates, calculates, and analyzes ES data and creates reports to convey key results for sustainability dashboards and other key metrics on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

Leads and oversees the submission of annual performance data to Practice Greenhealth, Healthcare Anchor Network, Health and Human Services Climate Pledge, Arbor Day Tree Campus Healthcare, and other key external partners for RUSH.

Develops and regularly updates a scalable dashboard reporting process for a wide variety of RUSH stakeholders, as well as for key external stakeholders.

Identifies areas of opportunity and supports ES program creation or expansion through data collection and reporting including potential cost savings, environmental and human health impacts, and employee engagement opportunities.

Identifies and executes sustainability communication strategies both internally and externally through collaborations with Marketing and Communications and other cross-functional working group team members.

Manages payroll and budgeting for the Sustainability Department.
Manages day to day operations of the Office of Sustainability including coordinator and volunteers.
