    Description
    Fred Smith Company is currently searching for a Preconstruction Manager for our Estimating Team in Raleigh. We are a heavy civil contractor working in the commercial sitework, public infrastructure and asphalt markets in North Carolina.

    This position requires an individual work to well in a team setting as well as demonstrate the ability to work independently.

    Good judgement and attention to detail are required in all routine duties and any other assigned tasks.


    Responsibilities:
    Performing research, looking for prospects, and finding qualified leads before referring them to the estimating team.

    Develop close working relationships with prospective clients to determine client needs and expectations where these needs can be addressed within forth coming proposals.

    Follow up on open proposals.
    Develop close working relationships with other industry professionals. Civil engineers, geo tech engineers, planners, landscape architects, consultants, development allies, lead groups and professional associations.
    Update sales database.
    Expand company's reach into potentially new markets.
    Price plan changes and analyze potential cost saving measures.
    Work with estimators to provide value in the bids and analyze VE options.
    Review contracts for consistency with bidsHand off projects and all pertinent details to project team.
    Carry out any additional duties as assigned by Director of Preconstruction.


    Required Skills:

    Communication & Interpersonal Skills:
    Strong communication skills are required in order to communicate, present, assert and speak to multiple stakeholders involved. Ability to cold call prospects with confidence in order to gain new clients. Strong computer skills and excellent organizational skills.


    Collaboration Skills:
    Ability to collaborate with multiple parties from inside and outside the company


    Project Management Skills:
    Ability to set goals, plan and manage projects, manage the risks involved, calculate budgets, cost, time and work with internal and external team members and customers


    Requirements/Experience:


    Minimum of three (3) years of construction/estimating experience in the heavy civil construction, asphalt or aggregates industries preferred but not required.

    Associates or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, or relevant field.
    Valid driver's license with positive driving history.
    Local candidates preferred.
