Basic Function:

Efficiently operate equipment to cut and saw castings safely and according to procedures. Employee is responsible for smooth, clean and organized operation of equipment and upkeep of the saw area. Castings must be handled with utmost of care. May assist with wheelabrate and other processes when needed.

General Responsibilities:


  • Accurate scanning in and out on jobs and the proper reporting of processed quantities.
  • Wear proper safety equipment; keep work area clean and safe at all times.
  • Understand customer requirements, our companies internal scrap challenges, rework, customer returns, the impact they have on your job and demonstrate ability to deliver quality & efficient workmanship.
  • Review & inspect all material being used, building selfinspection into everything you make/process; identify defects such as warping, nonfill or foreign objectives; notify supervision
  • Complete, date and signoff on all routing information before moving castings to next operation
  • Perform job tasks in an efficient manner according to given standards
  • Safe operation of band saw to include efficient cutting and saw operation of different types of metal, stock bars, scrap castings; feeding of material through saw; Able to perform under hazards and process challenges
  • Notify supervisor of any problems or questions

Specific Responsibilities:


  • Utilize work instructions to conform with customer specifications such as cutting lines, dimensions and tolerances
  • Keep castings & test bars organized according to melts; segregate metal, perform weight measurement and record metal scrap utilizing work instruction procedures
  • Ensure scrap metal inventory process with goal of no scrap cross contamination which would effect the melt/pour process
  • Perform hoist operation; maintain saw, safely lock out equipment while performing blade inspection and replacement/installation processes; test and adjust machine for speed and actions according to equipment specifications
  • Position guides, stops, holding blocks, or other fixtures to secure and direct work pieces
  • Learn and perform saw operation against customer and Chicago Magnesium quality standards
  • Follow all work instructions and procedures; sign and date all traveler paperwork
  • Learn other equipment operation such as wheelebrate; perform as needed

Ability to read, understand and follow procedures; Good communication skills; Basic Math Skills


Education/training:

On-the-Job Training provided while working under an experienced operator until position certification is achieved


Experience:

Band Saw experience preferred
