- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities, in collaboration with parents/guardians, general education teachers, and other school staff.
- Provide direct instruction to students with disabilities in a variety of academic subjects, adapting curriculum and instructional strategies to meet individual learning needs.
- Differentiate instruction and provide accommodations and modifications to support student learning and success in the general education curriculum.
- Assess student progress regularly and use data to inform instructional decisions and modify IEP goals and objectives as needed.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and related service providers to ensure the effective inclusion of students with disabilities in the general education setting.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on student progress, discuss concerns, and collaborate on strategies to support student learning at home and school.
- Participate in IEP meetings, team meetings, and professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education.
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field required.
- Valid teaching license/certification in Special Education from the state of Virginia required.
- Certification in Special Education from the state of Virginia required.
- Additional certifications or endorsements in specific areas of special education (e.g., autism, intellectual disabilities, behavioral disorders) preferred.
- Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
- Experience with the use of assistive technology and other accommodations to support student learning.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
