Description

The Phaidon family of companies — Phaidon, The Monacelli Press, and Artspace — are devoted to celebrating and showcasing the creative arts through our growing publishing programs and e-commerce marketplace platforms.

In each of our companies, we offer career opportunities to curious, creative, and independent individuals who share our passion for art, design, architecture, and popular culture.

Phaidon is the premier global publisher of the creative arts with over 1,500 titles in print.

We work with the world's most influential artists, chefs, writers, and thinkers to produce innovative books on art, photography, design, architecture, fashion, food, and travel, and illustrated books for children.

Phaidon is headquartered in New York and London, with offices in Paris and Berlin.

Phaidon books are sold in a wide variety of sales channels, bookstores, and specialty shops, retail and online around the world.

The Monacelli Press, a leading publisher of illustrated books for twenty-five years, challenges the conventions of publishing to produce some of the most provocative, inspiring, and essential titles on architecture, visual art, interior design, landscape architecture, and photography.

A separate imprint, Monacelli Studio, was founded in 2015 and focuses on the applied arts, adding art instruction, photography technique, and crafts to the publisher's growing list of books.

In 2020, Monacelli joined the Phaidon family of companies.

Managing Editor, Monacelli (New York)
Monacelli is looking to hire an experienced, full time Managing Editor, based in our New York office.

This new role will be responsible for helping our team of editors—six and growing—maintain schedules and budgets, helping deliver between eighteen and twenty-five illustrated books per season to the printer, and more.

Reporting directly to the Publisher, the position requires working closely with the Publisher and Production Director to:

  • Understand the unique complexities of each project
  • Attend weekly editorial progress meeting to discuss project status
  • Meet individually with editors as needed
  • Monitor projects throughout the season to spot and resolve problems as soon as possible, keeping the Publisher informed
  • Assist editors as needed with hiring copy editors and proofreaders from our stable of freelancers
  • Maintain/update a weekly progress report on the current season's titles
  • Help manage the twiceyearly catalogue process and editors' compilation of assets for catalogue
  • Manage the compilation of assets and metadata for release to ONIX, working with our existing digital and operations team.

This full-time position is based in our New York office, where we currently maintain a hybrid schedule of three days per week in office—Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays—and work from home Mondays and Fridays, with occasional need to be in the office those days as well.

Salary range (dependent on experience): $65,000 to $80,000

Closing date:
