    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

    The AudioVisual Solutions Department provides subject expertise and delivers trusted, creative, innovative and functional engineered audiovisual solutions from concept ideation to implementation with a strategic approach to audiovisual upgrades and maintenance for long-term success. Our team is proactive, responsive, courteous, collaborative while providing clear and efficient communication in support of our colleagues, partners, and the audiovisual solutions our team integrates.

    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Installations Manager, AudioVisual Solutions will strategically evaluate, manage and collaborate with internal stakeholders, as well as outside vendors, to design, prepare, install, and maintain audiovisual systems and Time-Based Media artworks throughout the museum in galleries, classrooms, auditoriums, conference rooms, event spaces, and any other specialized and general use areas where audiovisual technology is required. The Installations Manager, AVS will supervise, train, and schedule the Lead AV Technician, Installations and oversee freelance AV Technicians to fulfill audiovisual technology integrations.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Management and Supervision: Managing the strategic evaluation, development, coordination, and integration of all the museum's audiovisual solutions for exhibitions, gallery rotations, and installation across the museum campus. Communicate integration best practices and see that projects are successfully integrated by full-time Lead AV Technicians and freelance AV Technicians. Hold yearly performance reviews of Lead AV Technician, Installations.

    Install Audio Visual Exhibitions: Direct the fulfillment of exhibition installations while adhering to best practices and museum standards with aspects of design, implementation, and installation of internal audiovisual exhibition integration solutions according to the exhibition schedule and in consultation with internal and external stakeholders for projects identified by Exhibition Project Managers and the Experience Design Department.

    Departmental Hiring: In coordination with the Director of AVS and Events Manager, AVS, hires, orientates, evaluates, supports, and oversees the work of the Lead AV Technicians and a pool of freelance AV Technicians.

    Systems and Project Management: Oversees all systems integration installation and upgrade projects and adheres to the project schedule. Communicates with all stakeholders and holds all parties accountable for deliverables and services.

    Technical Training: Provide orientation, technical training and supervision of full-time and freelance employees by documenting training guides and conducting training sessions, as well as, providing technical tours of the facilities, operations, and any configurations of existing audiovisual systems and equipment. Update in-museum monitoring checklist and communicate requirements and best practices to Lead and/or freelance AV Technicians.

    Monitor, Troubleshoot and Maintain Audio Visual Equipment: Ensure operational status and proactively monitor, troubleshoot and maintain circulation, upkeep, organization, cleanliness, and maintenance of audiovisual equipment throughout the institution, including exhibitions and storage. Verify accuracy of equipment inventory before and after all exhibitions. Suggest improvements and upgrades routinely.

    Communicate and Collaborate: Interact professionally, collaborate and proactively communicate with all internal and external stakeholders, including artists and performers and installation representatives in order to facilitate and/or gather information required to devise and implement all exhibition related audiovisual solutions while adhering to institutional best practices.

    Research, Analyze, Test and Advise: Proactively identify, research and recommend audiovisual solutions that would benefit exhibitions, installations and display systems throughout the museum campus. Maintain an understanding of antiquated, current, new, and developing audiovisual technology, as it pertains to exhibitions and display systems throughout the museum. Explore and test new technologies. Enhance departmental knowledge of technological advances and trends through ongoing research and training at other museums, major conferences, and trade shows. Facilitate purchases of equipment.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Prolonged periods standing and sitting occur during the duration of an integration and sit in a stationary position during administrative and post-production related duties.
    • Frequently assist in moving audiovisual equipment weighing up to 50 pounds via a cart across campus for various auditoriums, classrooms and events needs.
    • Frequently ascends/descends ladders, scaffolding and/or lifts to adjust lighting and audiovisual equipment.
    • Frequently positions self to maintain audiovisual equipment, including under counters and in or behind racks in audiovisual closets.
    • Frequently operates a computer and other audiovisual equipment.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to adjust focus, and the ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Bachelor's degree preferred.
    • Minimum 3-5 years experience in managing design, set-up, operation, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrading of audiovisual systems and/or events in the live arts, higher education, and/or a museum setting with knowledge of contemporary art practices using media and/or audiovisual technology preferred
    • Experience working with Artists a plus
    • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the construction process and ability to cooperate with different trades.
      • Read, interpret, and utilize schematic and building drawings.
      • Experience with power and hand tools.
      • Must be comfortable with heights and have the ability to drive a scissor lift.
    • Experience using and/or professional knowledge of past and current, and upcoming industry trends in regards to audiovisual technology for installations and performances.
    • Proficient in programming and operating audiovisual control systems in one or more of the following required: BrightAuthor, ffmpeg, JavaScript, Linux shell, BiAmp, Extron, Crestron, Q-SYS, NodeRED and/or equivalent systems control hardware and software.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills are required.
    • Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, SmartSheets, Jira, Q-Lab, Adobe Premiere Pro, Pro Tools, and Audition or similar audio editing software.
