The Community Impact Department is comprised of four teams, focused respectively on Food & Benefits Access; Health Equity; Educational Equity, and Justice & Opportunity.

Each team is led by a Vice President.


Position Description:


The Senior Vice President, Community Impact Officer for
Food & Benefits Access and Health Equity (FBH-SVP) reports directly to the President and CEO, serves as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and supports the VPs of Health Equity and Food & Benefits Access.

FBH-SVP holds responsibility for UWNYC's Food & Benefits Access and Health & Equity portfolios in coordination with the VPs.

The FBH-SVP will co-lead UWNYC's Community Impact Strategies with the SVP Community Impact Officer for
Education and Justice & Opportunity (EJ&O-SVP).

The FBH-SVP and EJ&O-SVP will work to build a culture of collaboration, trust, and transparency within the Community Impact teams and the organization as a whole.


  • Externally, the FBH-SVP must be an effective coalitionbuilder and weaver of networks, bringing together diverse community, corporate, & government partners to develop models tailored to targeted equitable pathways for the communities we serve.
  • Internally, the FBH-SVP will identify opportunities for crossfunctional collaboration and staff development.


The FBH-SVP must be an experienced leader in Food & Benefits Access and Health Equity programs with demonstrated program and network management skills, including the establishment of shared measurement practices to assess impact.


Additionally, the FBH-SVP will provide oversight of UWNYC's Emergency Assistance & Community Needs Fund (EACN) which is used to rapidly deploy resources to community-based organizations offering emergency relief to families and individuals in need.

The FBH-SVP will have the advantages of working with an experienced and highly engaged Board of Directors, an energetic and visionary President and CEO, and one of the best-known brands in nonprofit community partnerships.


Food and Benefits Access


Food & Benefits Access strengthens the capacity of our citywide network of emergency food providers and helps distribute culturally appropriate, nutritious foods and programming in the five boroughs.

FBA ensures that New Yorkers who need it receive critical housing and utilities support and are enrolled into benefit programs.

We collaborate and advocate together with partners to increase the supply of healthy food and ensure equitable access citywide.


Health Equity
The HEU was established in January of 2021 and works to improve access to preventative health care services, screenings and access to a medical home for under
- and uninsured populations. The Unit started with the launch of the Choose Healthy Life Black Clergy Action Plan (CHL) to raise awareness, educate the community on preventative measures, and most importantly provide access to COVID-19 testing for high-risk communities through the Black church. CHL has brought together local United Way agencies under the UWNYC, which serves as its implementation partner. The HEU is currently launching other health initiatives and a Health Equity Cabinet to address social determinants of health and best practices for community-driven approaches to address health disparities.

The EJ&O-SVP's primary responsibilities will include managing and overseeing the Food & Benefits Access and Health Equity teams through the following functions:

  • Community Impact Officer
  • Support strategic thinking and operations with a special focus on efforts that require collaboration, synergy, and partnership with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Take leadership in operationalizing new and existing initiatives
  • Provide support to Food & Benefits Access and Health Equity VPs in establishing external partnerships, as well as advocacy and resource development efforts
  • Operations
  • In partnership with Food & Benefits Access and Health Equity VPs, identify need for key systems in collaboration with operations and organizational strategic goals.
  • In partnership with Food & Benefits Access and Health Equity VPs develop, monitor, and revise annual, quarterly, and monthly work plans
