  • Summary
  • The Entry Level Material Handler I is responsible for all phases of shipping duties; moving product, loading and unloading, inventory counting, completion of required paperwork. Other expectations include the ability to perform all the other duties and tasks of the other employees within the department when required or needed. The Material Handler I must also be knowledgeable and capable of following and enforcing all department and plant rules, policies and procedures.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear all proper personal protective equipment.
  • Operator practices good housekeeping
  • Operator practices proper lifting techniques (5S)
  • Attends Daily Preshift meetings.
  • Maintain excellent customer service
  • Process LTL's


  • Banding

  • Product needing to be; shrouded, banded, capped as per customer requests.
  • Operate equipment (forklift, propane tank, etc.) safely at all times
  • Ship material by FIFO (first in first out)
  • Ship/shuttle material by Item number and by location
  • Verify production according to the Production Verification Check-List.
  • Load and unload trucks, vans, and railcars safely
  • Handle material safely and without causing damage
  • Rework damaged material within specified time
  • Hand stack material (safely) when order includes partial items
  • Shuttle material to make adequate space for production (Line 1 and Line 2), using pre
- printed stock transfers and document all transfers

  • Maintain forklift by inspecting, recording and reporting any issues immediately
  • Maintain good housekeeping at all times
  • Assist Material Handler II
  • Maintain housekeeping in the assigned area (s) of the facility.
  • Required to assure the work area remains clean and orderly.
  • Load/Unload rail cars with finished goods and or raw materials, demonstrating an understanding of product identification, product weight, product location, and loading patterns.
  • Lab Scan for granules
  • Silo flipping
  • Granule bagging and dumping
  • Pods cleaning for different color granules
  • Changes hoses for bagging or loading trucks as needed
  • Able to operate equipment
  • Transloader
  • Forklift
  • Report any unsafe conditions.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Supervisor/Leadman
  • Other responsibilities

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must continuously have the ability to differentiate colors precisely.
  • Must be able to drive a forklift which requires sitting for long periods of time, as well as the ability to use your arms and legs to work the controls, brakes and steering wheel.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder and/or stairs.
  • Frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing.
  • Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery.
  • Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone.
  • Occasionally operate business machines.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Ability to read and concentrate via computer data entry typing and proofreading.
