    Job Description:


    The Department of Health Policy, Management & Behavior (HPMB), School of Public Health at the University at Albany, State University of New York, invites applications for a fully funded, tenure-track faculty position in Health Policy.


    Successful candidates will be expected to develop and sustain scholarly research in the health policy and management area, increase the Department's teaching capacity in health policy and management, mentor MPH and DrPH students, and actively engage in university and community service.

    We are especially interested in candidates with a commitment to fostering an environment of inclusion and collegiality among a culturally diverse school community.

    Candidates will have collaborative opportunities for public and private sector consulting and/or for research initiatives as the School of Public Health maintains long-standing relationships with the New York State Department of Health, local insurers, hospitals, non-profit health care advocacy organizations, and other health and policy related organizations and associations.


    Housed in the most diverse public Research 1 university in the US, the School of Public Health, with a close partnership with the New York State Department of Health, faculty have opportunities for timely and impactful research to improve comprehensive wellness and reduce health inequities in New York State, the nation, and across the globe.

    Students have unique and extensive experiential learning in public health practice.

    The School of Public Health is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health and offers MPH, MS, DrPH, and PhD degrees.


    The HPMB Department is a dynamic, multi-disciplinary department with concentrations in Social Behavior & Community Health and Health Policy & Management.

    Faculty in the department make substantial contributions in diverse areas such as maternal and child health, health communication, aging, health disparities, mental and behavioral health, health care policy, long-term care, and health information technology.

    The HPMB department is located in the Capital District of NYS, therefore it is an ideal location to conduct research and influence policy and practice.


    The School has a rapidly growing BS in Public Health program, on-campus and online MPH programs, and masters and doctoral programs in Public Health, Epidemiology, Environmental Health, and Biomedical Sciences.

    The School offers Graduate Certificate Programs in Public Health, Global Health, Maternal and Child Health, HIV Studies, Health Disparities, and Public Health Surveillance and Preparedness, and offers opportunities for candidates to collaborate with Centers at the School, such as the Center for Collaborative HIV Research, Practice, and Policy (CCHRP).


    Requirements:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • A Doctoral degree in health policy, health services research, health economics, or a related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by 5/1/2024. Candidates who will not hold the degree by this date will not be considered.
    • The successful candidate must demonstrate teaching ability.
    • The successful candidate must demonstrate evidence of scholarly research achievement
    (eg:

    peer reviewed manuscripts, commissioned reports, book chapters, evidence-informed articles, or presentations at scientific meetings/conferences).

    • Applicants must address their plan for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in varying modalities including in-person and online
    (eg:

    course development, course instruction or co-teaching, ideas of mentoring).

    • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.
    • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Preferred teaching may be in a variety of areas, including but not limited to outcomes research; health policy analysis; health inequities and disparities; health care organization, financing, and delivery; mental health policy; health technology management; or maternal and child health policy.
    • Evidence of research interests in a variety of areas, including (but not limited to) outcomes research; health policy analysis; health inequities and disparities; health care organization, financing, and delivery; mental health policy; maternal and child health policy; or health technology management.
    • A record of, or demonstrated potential for, seeking external research funding.
