Description

Under the direction of the Town Manager, the Corporation Counsel is the legal adviser and attorney to the Town Manager, Town officials, department boards, agencies and commissions.

The Corporation Counsel shall represent the Town in litigation and proceedings, including the prosecution of cases before the Municipal Court.

• Labor relations, civil litigation, administrative appeals, FOIA, collective bargaining and municipal, state, federal and constitutional law affecting municipal government
• Legal principles and practices including criminal, civil, constitutional and administrative law procedures, principles and practices of municipal law
• Town Charter and Town Municipal Code
• Town legislative processes, fiscal and budget management processes and applicable administrative policies and procedures

• Provide administrative and professional leadership and direction
• Work on high-level and sensitive Town issues and projects
• Effectively administer special projects with contractual agreements and ensuring compliance
• Conduct negotiations and represent the Town and the departments in meetings with governmental agencies, contractors, vendors and various businesses, professional, regulatory and legislative organizations
• Establish, maintain and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work
• Try a case to verdict

• Licensed attorney in the state of Connecticut.
