    Default job background
    Description

    About Sands Capital:
    We are an active, long-term investor in leading innovative businesses globally. Our approach combines analytical rigor and creative thinking to identify high-quality growth businesses that are creating the future.

    Through an integrated investment platform spanning venture capital, growth equity and public equity, we provide growth capital solutions to institutions and fund sponsors in more than 40 countries (detailed on our website ).

    Position Summary:

    Sands Capital is looking for a Research Analyst that has strong domain expertise in the innovative areas of the healthcare sector to join us as a member of our Investment Team.

    The Research Analyst will act as a thought leader for public healthcare investments and may also spend time contributing to our investments in private life sciences business or public businesses outside of healthcare.

    In coordination with Sands Capital's strategies, Research Analysts identify and recommend businesses that meet Sands Capital's six investment criteria.

    Research Analysts typically have 7+ years of investment experience, deep domain expertise, a strong investing track record, and highly effective communication skills.

    Work Expectations:

    This role is expected to work from our Arlington, Virginia office (HQ) on a hybrid schedule of 2-3 days per week in-office (specifically, Tuesdays and Wednesdays) or as directed by your manager, depending on the role and team needs.

    Please know that the hybrid schedule is subject to change, as directed by our Executive Management Team, at any time.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Value-added investment recommendations: Analysts leverage their deep-domain expertise to develop key insights that lead to long-term investment recommendations.
    • Collaboration: We believe that investing is a team sport and that the best decisions are made in small, high-trust and context teams. Research Analysts must be able to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team.
    • Effective communication (both verbal and written): Research Analysts must be able to confidently articulate and share their key insights for them to translate into value-added portfolio actions. They also must be able to effectively represent Sands Capital with clients and prospects.
    • Other position responsibilities, as needed; and
    • Exhibit behaviors consistent with Sands Capital's Mission, Values, and culture.

    Position Qualifications:

    • Undergraduate degree from an accredited university;
    • CFA preferred, but not required;
    * ~7+ years of industry experience, preferably on the buy-side;

    • A passion for growth investing;
    • Outstanding analytical and strategic aptitude; highly motivated with a positive, 'can-do' attitude;
    • Strong work ethic, diligence, and an ability to execute at a high level without direct supervision; and
    • Open and receptive; having a growth mindset.

    Required Behavioral Characteristics:
    Identified below are Behavioral Characteristics that the firm holds in high regard and believes are critical for high performing individuals and teams at Sands Capital:

    • Having impeccable integrity;
    • Exhibiting superior client service skills (to include both internal and external clients);
    • Exhibiting strong interpersonal skills;
    • Demonstrating a strong work ethic in a fast-paced, professional environment;
    • Operating with a high degree of initiative, self-discipline, and motivation;
    • Being able to collaborate and work effectively as part of a team, while also being able to work independently with a high degree of efficiency and accuracy;
    • Assuming the best of others; and
    • Being motivated by a job well-done.
    Specific to the Research Analyst position, below are Behavioral Characteristics we believe are critical for success in the role:

    • The Research Analyst maintains an "ownership" mindset. Research Analysts are expected to make clear, decisive recommendations and take accountability for investment outcomes. Team members are not reporters "covering" a space.
    • The Research Analyst has and maintains a long-term perspective, one of our firm's Values. Our portfolio turnover is low at ~20-25%. We make fewer, larger investment actions and make changes based on improving/deteriorating long-term investment cases rather than quarterly results.
    • Finally, the Research Analyst has an entrepreneurial mentality. Our franchise has expanded, and we have ambitions for future growth. This requires team members to roll up their sleeves, pick up loose balls, and wear different hats, all of which opens the opportunity for career advancement if we execute.

    Sands Capital's Values:
    Identified below are Values the firm holds in high regard and believes are critical for high-performing individuals and teams at Sands Capital:

    • Integrity and Trust: Do what is right, not what is popular. Deliver on commitments.
    • Client-Centered: Always act in the best interest of our clients.
    • Commitment to Excellence: Strive to learn and improve. Implement best practices.
    • Focus: Identify and concentrate on "what matters"
    • Long-

    Term Perspective:
    Appreciate that time allows sound decisions to demonstrate their worth. Avoid short-term thinking

    • Independent Thinking: Have the courage to develop and articulate your own convictions. Debate others openly and honestly
    • Teamwork: Collaborate to gather facts, develop perspective, build conviction, and support timely decision-making
    • Positive "Can-Do" Attitude: Demonstrate a willingness to tackle any task
    • Graciousness: Reflect kindness and courtesy at all times
    • Balance: Enjoy your work while balancing professional activities with interests beyond the firm
    • Meritocracy: Know that talent and achievement will drive your success at Sands Capital
