Purpose of Position:

This class of positions encompasses work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility in handling equipment.

Responsibilities:

Schedules and ensures that preventative maintenance according to established procedures. Responds to service calls for emergency repairs (calls with a possible adverse outcome).
Maintains records of all maintenance and repairs.
Manage the Biomedical Engineering Department inventory and PM program.
Maintains permanent records for each piece of equipment which falls under the responsibility of the Biomedical Engineering Department.
Maintains code requirements by performing and documenting scheduled inspections and electrical safety tests.
Maintains records to ensure compliance with State, Federal, Local and Joint Commission regulations.
Monitors the inventory of biomedical equipment, parts and standby equipment to ensure minimum disruption of patient care.
Responsible for keeping current on new developments in biomedical equipment and systems.
Participates in performance improvement.
Performs all other duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or designee.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or its educational equivalent, preferably including one (1) year in electronic equipment repair, shop, general science, physics and completion of a course in electronic equipment repair and medical equipment repair in vocational, associate degree, trade or armed service school; and
Five (5) years of satisfactory, full-time, paid experience as a Medical Equipment Repair Technician for installation, repair and preventive maintenance of medical equipment, three (3) years of which must have been in a responsible supervisory or administrative capacity; or
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Biomedical Technology, Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology or related discipline; and
Three (3) years of experience servicing a broad-range of clinical/patient care equipment, devices, and network medical systems in a hospital or health care facility; or
Three (3) years of satisfactory, full-time, paid experience as a Medical Equipment Specialist or equivalent type of experience; or
A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
