Purpose of Position:

This class of positions encompasses work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility in handling equipment.


Responsibilities:


  • Schedules and ensures that preventative maintenance according to established procedures. Responds to service calls for emergency repairs (calls with a possible adverse outcome).
  • Maintains records of all maintenance and repairs.
  • Manage the Biomedical Engineering Department inventory and PM program.
  • Maintains permanent records for each piece of equipment which falls under the responsibility of the Biomedical Engineering Department.
  • Maintains code requirements by performing and documenting scheduled inspections and electrical safety tests.
  • Maintains records to ensure compliance with State, Federal, Local and Joint Commission regulations.
  • Monitors the inventory of biomedical equipment, parts and standby equipment to ensure minimum disruption of patient care.
  • Responsible for keeping current on new developments in biomedical equipment and systems.
  • Participates in performance improvement.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or designee.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or its educational equivalent, preferably including one (1) year in electronic equipment repair, shop, general science, physics and completion of a course in electronic equipment repair and medical equipment repair in vocational, associate degree, trade or armed service school; and
  • Five (5) years of satisfactory, full-time, paid experience as a Medical Equipment Repair Technician for installation, repair and preventive maintenance of medical equipment, three (3) years of which must have been in a responsible supervisory or administrative capacity; or
  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Biomedical Technology, Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology or related discipline; and
  • Three (3) years of experience servicing a broad-range of clinical/patient care equipment, devices, and network medical systems in a hospital or health care facility; or
  • Three (3) years of satisfactory, full-time, paid experience as a Medical Equipment Specialist or equivalent type of experience; or
  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
