About the Unit:
The Independence Transition Unit (ITU) is an inpatient unit serving individuals from the ages of 18 and up.
The objective of the ITU is to provide a safe and structured environment for patients awaiting discharge from the hospital.
A multidisciplinary treatment team targets a broad range of psychiatric illnesses and behavioral challenges with various therapeutic programs and educational groups.
Nursing teammates work closely as part of the multidisciplinary team to help patients meet their goals and transition back into the community.

An exciting opportunity awaits on 3 Birch for a second shift (3:00 p.m.-11:30 p.m.) Health Care Technician II.
The Health Care Technician II (HCT) serves as a role model and mentor to other HCT I's.
As an essential member of a multidisciplinary care team, the HCT II practices therapeutic principles when providing care to the patients they serve.
A typical day on the ITU consists of interacting with teammates and patients and ensuring the safety of both. Patients begin their day being encouraged and mentored by teammates. Teammates provide structured skill building activities and interaction in varies settings throughout the day. Patients attend off-unit programming at the Hope and Wellness Center.Patients have scheduled access to time in the courtyard with various activities, gymnasium with basketball court, library, and various other off-unit activities.
The HCT II works closely with the Registered Nurse and Clinical Nurse manager to train and orient new HCT I's, facilitate professional communication and provide feedback to improve processes and quality care.
Nursing Care is performed under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus
Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:
"A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).
An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;
(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
