Senior Project Engineer

Provide senior level leadership and manage large scale and/or complex projects in occupied spaces or cross-functional capital renewal projects that involve collaboration with various departments and groups.

Lead design projects and address construction issues as the main representative of Fairfax County. Set project objectives and performance standards.

Manage engineering work related to HVAC, Building Automation Systems (BAS), and plumbing systems for new, renovation, and renewal projects.

Review plans and specifications for HVAC and plumbing compliance with code requirements. Serve as a subject matter expert for the department and other county agencies.

Utilize a strong technical background and attention to detail to perform and review mechanical engineering tasks.

Ensure timely project completion while adhering to quality and industry standards, as well as maintaining cost efficiency.

Report to and work under the guidance of the Project Coordinator or Division Director of Design, Engineering, and Construction.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture, plus five years of experience in the engineering field.

Required Licenses:
A valid driver's license.
Professional Engineer (PE)
Valid Professional Mechanical Engineer License for Virginia.

Special Requirements:

Must pass criminal and driving record background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:
Five or more years of experience as a lead mechanical P.E. in commercial building HVAC, building automation, and plumbing design. Three or more years as a lead mechanical P.E. in designing HVAC, building automation, and plumbing systems for commercial buildings. Strong background in energy management, contract management, and staff management.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to climb ladders, access tight spaces, work in extreme environments, use hand tools, lift up to 25 pounds, and communicate effectively. Must have vision for detailed work.

Selection Process:
Panel interview may be required.
