    Position:

    High School PrincipalLocation:Waterford Mott High SchoolJob Summary and Responsibilities: The Principal will be an inspiration to all Mott stakeholders, embodying optimism, tenacity, and the courage to lead in the most difficult circumstances.

    The candidate must have an exemplary work ethic and proven success record in secondary education. Technical ability to leverage digital tools for learning and assessment is essential in this role.
    Demonstrate skills and experience as an instructional leaderUnwavering commitment to advocate for the needs of all studentsConfidence in leading staff conversations around equity, unconscious bias and achievement gap data that results in classroom strategies with students to address these issuesDesign opportunities to empower students, staff, and parents to be integrally involved in all aspect of the schools culture and climateDemonstrate a willingness and aptitude for public speaking in both prepared and extemporaneous formatsEmbrace change, innovation, and ability to envision and actualize learning beyond the traditional walls of the classroom and the schoolCommit to high visibility by demonstrating a consistent presence in the school communityUnderstand the complexities and nuances of hiring, inspiring, and mentoring all staff members to exceed expectationsWork with staff to analyze student achievement data and to improve instructionUnderstand the schools responsibility to prepare students for their futures in rapidly changing global societyProvide the overall leadership, direction, coordination, and evaluation of a high school programDirect and coordinate the duties and responsibilities ordinarily delegated to the assistant principalsSupervise and evaluate staffEstablish a culture of high expectations for both academics and behaviorInteract with students in a constructive manner, encouraging each to perform at his/her highest levelMaintain positive relations with parents, parent groups, school volunteers, business partners, and other related agenciesWork with staff in the development and execution of school improvement plansParticipate in district-wide activities, such as PreK-12 meetings, curriculum planning, and in-service trainingManage the school budget, facility, and eventsMonitor, manage, and remain abreast of school safety and securityWork with central office personnel to coordinate processes for the effective functioning of the school and the Waterford School District

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate, preferably in Secondary EducationMichigan School Administrators Certificate or intent/ability to pursue certification within six months after employment leading to completion of the program within three yearsMasters Degree in Educational Leadership, School Administration or CurriculumThree years of successful administrative experience preferredMinimum of five years of successful secondary teaching experienceExemplary communication skillsKnowledge and understanding of recent research on school and teacher effectivenessKnowledge and understanding of social-emotional learning and its role in schoolsCurrent professional development in best practices in teaching and learningSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptableStrong background in instructional leadershipPersonal commitment to academic excellence with student achievement as a priority goalLeadership experience working with diverse populations and special needs studentsSkilled in leading school improvement and applying data to initiate specific instructional changeKnowledge and experience in closing the achievement gap using research and evidence-based instructionExperience evaluating instructional and support staff that will improve teaching and learningProficient use of student information systemsEvidence of ability to positively affect school culture and by creating an open, enthusiastic and well-organized teaching and learning environmentCollaborative leadership experience and in depth knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment
