JOB SUMMARY:

Reports to the Director of Ancillary Services and is responsible for the technical supervision and operation of the Day Kimball Chemistry/Immunology/ Urinalysis Supervisor sections (including oversight of evening/night shifts) on a daily basis.

Schedules, coordinates, and supervises the activities of personnel involved in testing for Chemistry/Immunology/ Urinalysis for all shifts. Ensures that all procedures and quality control guidelines are followed and documented as required by regulatory agencies. Monitors quality of results for all shifts. Reviews all procedures annually and creates revisions as necessary.


Provides support for the Director of Ancillary Services in complementary strategies to accomplish the goals of the Day Kimball Hospital Laboratory while providing management of staff and issues as they develop.

Maintains flow of communication with Director of Ancillary Services at all times.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Supervises, coordinates and participates in the activities of workers performing various chemical and immunological testing in order to achieve high quality results with stateoftheart equipment and techniques.
  • Supervises specimen dispatch for optimum handling, transport and turnaround times.
  • Reviews standard operating procedures annually and ensures compliance is attained.
  • Initiates, develops and recommends changes to policies and procedures. Communicates approved policy changes to technical staff and ancillary departments once accepted by Chief Pathologist and Director of Ancillary Services.
  • Prepares the required letters and conducts look back procedures for Chemistry/Immunology/ Urinalysis.
  • Participates in orientation and training of all staff and annual assessment of competency.
  • Maintains organization of all documentation.
  • Assures all equipment is operational and places calls to service/biomed and facilities when needed.
  • Mentors staff in all areas.
  • Assures that safety requirements are enforced, and PPE is utilized per regulatory requirements.
  • Writes, reviews and revises technical procedures as required.
  • Ensures appropriate testing turnaround times are being maintained and assist Lab Manager in addressing those who are not in compliance.
  • Participates in implementation and compliance for laboratory all QA/QI activities
  • Responsible for the CAP checklist in Immunology/Chemistry, and Urinalysis. Also responsible for being the resource during CAP inspections in these areas and participating as a peer inspector as a CAP Lab.

Education:
MT degree with ASCP certification or comparable required within the first year of employment; documentation required.

Current knowledge of medical technology or subspecialty of medical technology required; chemistry specialist preferred.


Experience:
Five years' experience in multiple areas of laboratory with five years supervising experience preferred.
