- Job Summary
- The Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner is responsible for nursing support to the hospitalists practicing at McDonough District Hospital. The Nurse Practitioner / APN will work in concert with the hospitalist in the completion of history and physical examinations, ordering pertinent laboratory tests, medication reconciliation developing the problem list, attending grand rounds and trio rounding. Will also assist with first line call coverage for the hospitalist service

- EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. Appropriate state licensure as RN required.
2. Advanced Practice Certification by American Academy of Nurse Practitioners or American Association of Nurse Credentialing; master's degree from accredited Nurse Practitioner Program preferred.
3. 3 years nursing experience in ICU / CCU, ER, Med. Surg. Case Management or other Inpatient Unit Care with emphasis in multiple body systems.
4. ACLS
5. Telemetry experience preferred.
6. Excellent data entry skills.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
8. Customer service orientation.
9. Ability to work independently.
10. Commitment to patient safety and quality indicators.
JOB KNOWLEDGE
The hospitalist nurse practitioner will have a high degree of knowledge that is applied within the APN / patient relationship to achieve optimal outcomes through analysis, problem solving and evidence-based decision making as it relates to patient care. Will be expected to become knowledgeable of hospital policies, procedures, and practices. Knowledge of medical and technical equipment used. Knowledge of medical-legal rules and regulations, i.e. child abuse reporting, domestic violence reporting, elder abuse reporting, etc., and a desire and willingness to continually acquire additional knowledge as it applies to the hospitalist nurse practitioner role. - ABILITIES, INTERESTS AND TEMPERAMENTS

9. Demonstrates dependability, a positive attitude, sense of humor, and ability to accept change while maintaining a commitment to positively represent the clinic and hospital.
10. Must have the ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations (e.g. developmentally appropriate care, cultural diversity, patients with pain, victims of abuse or neglect, and diagnosis or procedure specific such as patient with congestive heart failure or cesarean delivery).
