    Minimum Requirements

    1. Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Behavioral Science, or related field.
    2. Three (3) years professional experience in substance abuse counseling work.
    3. Must have one of the following Florida state certifications at the time of hire:
      • State Certified Master's Level Addiction Professional certification (MCAP)
      • State Certified Addictions Professional certification (CAP)
      • State Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional certification (CCJAP)
      • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
      • Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)
      • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
      • State Licensed Psychologist
    4. Proficiency in English and conversational Spanish is strongly desired.
    5. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Such experience must be clearly documented for consideration.
    This is a grant funded employment contract position. Continued employment is contingent upon the continued receipt of adequate grant funding. Selected candidates will be contract employees with the terms and conditions of such employment set forth in a contract between BSO and the selected candidates. Contract employees will not be entitled to the same rights and benefits as permanent employees. BSO shall have the right to modify pay or benefits at any time due to the increased benefit costs, budgetary or grant funding reductions or other fiscal problems/restraints. In addition, the contract can be terminated at any time for any reason.

    This grant expires 6/30/2024 (renewed yearly); however, the contract to provide services to the 17th Judicial Circuit Court is valid through 12/31/2025.
    Nature of Work

    Under direction, the purpose of the position is to provide professional substance abuse/mental health treatment relating to victims, social service, addiction, and crisis intervention for clients/inmates of the Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Community Programs. Employees in this classification perform specialized and professional treatment work of a rehabilitative nature. Position is responsible for interviewing, counseling, evaluating, assessing, and providing substance abuse, mental health, crisis-intervention and follow-up counseling to clients/inmates participating in treatment programs. Performs related work as directed.
    Essential Functions/Physical Requirements

    The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification.     Conducts program orientation, assessment, and treatment planning for clients/inmates participating in therapeutic programs administered through the Sheriff's Office.

    Provides therapeutic services based on treatment evaluation; provides clinical case management for assigned clients/inmates.

    Provides comprehensive and documented assessment, and treatment planning.

    Conducts discharge planning, and provides referrals for continuing treatment; provides for follow-up contact as needed.

    Provides crisis intervention, individual, group and family counseling.

    Informs clients/inmates of legal requirements and implications concerning treatment; coordinates with various local, county, and community agencies concerning status of cases.

    Attends in-service training, workshops and inter-agency conferences to coordinate services; attends staff conferences for case review and consultation as needed.

    Maintains files, records, and case documentation in accordance with established regulatory policies and procedures; prepares medical, casework and legal documentation for assigned clients/inmates.

    Secures assistance and cooperation of social service agencies and related community resources for meeting client/inmate needs.

    Performs related duties as directed.

    Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. May require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects. Tasks are performed in a corrections environment where proper provisions are in place in terms of employee security and protection. Due to the nature and location of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements consistent with routine conditions in a corrections detainment environment.

    Recruitment Information

    Applicants who qualify will be subject to an extensive selection process and screening program, which may include, but not be limited to evaluation of training and experience; written test; computer based test; interview; polygraph examination; psychological evaluation; employment record, fingerprint and background check; medical examination; and drug screen. The expected duration of the selection process varies by position and could last 10 to 12 weeks. Reapplication will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

    This position is a grant funded/contract position and therefore entitled to the following benefits for the term of the contract.

    A. Enrollment in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) with Contract Employee responsible for the mandatory 3% contribution.

    B. Single lowest premium cost medical coverage with Contract Employee responsible for the standard bi-weekly contributions for such coverage.

    C. Dental Coverage - BSO single dental coverage with Contract Employee responsible for the standard bi-weekly contributions for such coverage. Contract Employee may elect family dental coverage; however, Contract Employee is responsible for any and all costs for the coverage that exceeds the total cost of the single dental coverage.

    D. Contract Employee may elect single POS or family medical; however, Contract Employee is responsible for any and all costs for the coverage that exceeds the total cost of single lowest premium cost medical coverage as applicable.
