- Performs on-site testing, maintenance, and repair of all KDOT continuous electronic data collection installations at approximately 120 locations throughout the state of Kansas.
- Installs permanent traffic counting equipment, detectors, and AC or solar power sources, erects suitable equipment cases, installs telecommunication equipment, and installs and connects recording equipment.
- Monitors the automated data download process and manually downloads sites that are not auto-downloaded, performs preliminary quality and completeness checks, and performs any maintenance and repairs for sites not performing correctly.
- Cleans, repairs, and services portable traffic counters, repairs and services equipment used for other surveys including weigh-in motion equipment and electronic vehicle classification equipment, and assists in the development of appropriate testing and maintenance procedures.
- Constructs, modifies, and evaluates devices for diagnosis and repair of existing equipment, performs tests on various types of new traffic monitoring equipment to determine which will fulfill the needs of the department and improve efficiency of the Unit, and develops specifications for the purchase of new equipment.
- Three years of experience in electronic repair.
- Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered.
- Valid Driver's License at time of appointment.
- Ability to work outdoors.
- Ability to perform maintenance on automatic data collection equipment.
- Ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Ability to work well with others as a team.
- This position is subject to pre-employment physical testing. The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment.

Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
This Electronics Technician Senior position is located in Topeka, at the Eisenhower State Office Building, and is within the Bureau of Transportation Planning. This position collects accurate traffic data, installs, and maintains the continuous and portable electronic data equipment and communications equipment, downloads and validates data, and assists with coordination with traffic control and utility companies. The Electronics Technician Senior also assists with other shop duties such as inventory, restocking shop vehicle supplies, and preparing traffic counter installation equipment. Frequent daily travel and occasional overnight travel is required.
