The City of Glendale is hiring 3 Temporary Park Rangers. This position is a temporary, 30 hour or less position with a
flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends and holidays
Essential Functions:
- Operates a portable radio to maintain contact with staff and local law enforcement agencies.
- Monitors park activities and users; educates and enforces park policies, regulations, and
- Works with volunteers to provide educational programs that promote park and facility use.
- Performs park security activities; monitors events; identifies and reports unsafe conditions
- Patrols park to deter criminal and other undesirable activity.
- Ensures that reserved facilities are available to users in a safe, clean condition, checks for
- Provides assistance in emergency situations; call for police or medical assistance.
- Answers routine questions and assists park users as required.
- Checks and monitors safety of playground equipment.
- Prepares reports of injuries, vandalism, thefts, and patrol activities.
- Cleans area using broom, mop or other tools.
- Moves debris, dirt or other material using a shovel, rake or other tool.
- Sets up tables, chairs, barricades, traffic cones, etc.
- Assists with setting up for special events.
- Sets up barricades and signage for safety and maintenance closures in parks, trails,
- Solves problems, shows compassion, and builds relationships with the public, outside
- Operates a City vehicle.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements/Success Factors:
One year of experience in public recreation, security, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Park ranger, sworn law enforcement, or military experience is preferred. Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
Knowledge of:
Parks and Recreation department policies and regulations City ordinances and state statutes for park use Park safety practices Patrol and security procedures and practices
Ability to:
Handle encounters with hostile or irate individuals Conduct equipment or facility checks; identify hazardous or unsafe conditions or behaviors Understand and follow safe working practices Effectively communicate verbally and in writing Keep accurate records; prepare accurate and timely reports Perform basic life support and basic first aid procedures Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the public
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Requires lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to operate a city vehicle.
- Must be able to enter and exit a city vehicle.
- Working Conditions: Exposure to varying weather conditions; extensive walking, patrolling a City park. Occasionally encounters hostile or irate persons.
