Position Summary:


  • The Head Baseball coach will lead the ONU baseball team in its mission of "Winning Championships—Developing Champions.
" This requires successful management of all phases of the baseball program:
facilities, staff, finances, and constituent relations.

The position also requires visionary leadership to strengthen the baseball program athletically, academically, spiritually, and through the service mission of the University.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Schedule and supervise a fall game and practice schedule, and offseason practices, scrimmages.
  • Work within budgetary guidelines for all phases of the program.
  • Arrange transportation for all matches.
  • Recruit and maintain a roster size that meets the institutional requirement for baseball.
  • Schedule and reserve facilities for all practices, games, weights and other activities.
  • Provide supervision at all practices and games.
  • Provide players with proper practice opportunities and knowledge to improve their game.
  • Assign duties and responsibilities to assistant coaches.
  • Coordinate the issuance, care, and inventory of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Ensure the proper completion of physical examinations and all forms relating to emergency medical authorization and insurance.
  • Complete the NAIA coaches champions of character training course.
  • Supply the sports information director with player rosters, team results, records broken, as well as individual and team season highlights.
  • Adhere to all NAIA policies and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the compliance coordinator for eligibility certification.
  • Follow department and university guidelines for purchasing, travel, reimbursement, and maintenance of facilities.
  • Adhere to the athletic department logo, colors, and fonts.
  • Possible game management responsibilities for a fall sport(s).
  • Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:


  • Exhibit a lifestyle in agreement with the ONU Statement of Mission, Faith, and Lifestyle Covenant.
  • Possess successful college and or high school head coaching experience.
  • Possess personal characteristics such as vision and excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and sympathy for education in the Wesleyan tradition and Nazarene school sponsorship.
  • Demonstrate an active relationship with Christ as expressed in faith and service, which is in accord with the mission of Olivet Nazarene University.
  • Be a model of Christian discipleship as confirmed through active engagement in a local church, involvement in campus worship, and through a vibrant, current testimony.

EDUCATION

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required; master's degree is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The Head Baseball Coach reports to the Director of Athletics. Offices for the baseball staff are located in the Perry Convocation Center. Practices and games are held on Watson Field in the Snowbarger Athletic Park Complex.
