Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Director of Public Relations, the
Media Relations Specialist will serve as a direct and initial point of contact with the media.

The Media Relations Specialist will develop and pitch multi-media content, actively and regularly interacting with members of the media to understand their needs and interests.

In addition, the Media Relations Specialist will serve on the crisis communications response team.

In collaboration with other members of the Marketing and Communications team, the Media Relations Specialist will develop content and strategies that promote and build Bassett's reputation, increase public engagement, educate the public about health and wellness, and increase visibility and positive perceptions of the network.

This includes developing and managing organic social media content.

  • Serve as an initial point of contact, along with the Director of Public Relations, for media inquiries for the health system.
  • Promote brand identity and awareness through digital and traditional media platforms.
  • Research, write, create, pitch, and disseminate stories and multimedia content for media and public audiences, including developing video, organic social media content, press releases, longform stories, web content and blogs, and other content as needed.
  • Manage Bassett Healthcare Network's organic social media, including developing and managing content and monitoring inquiries and comments daily across social media channels.
  • Serve on the crisis communications response team, taking a frequent and active role in crisis communications management and serving on the network's Incident Command Team. Assist the Director of Public Relations with maintaining emergency response communications plans and onsite coordination efforts.
  • Monitor all media and social media activity and ensure timely distribution of news clips to key audiences.
  • Provide coverage and reporting on Bassett news and events, including attending events on campus and in the community as needed to conduct interviews and collect photos and videos.
  • Regularly produce reports and analytics related to key media relations metrics.
  • Develop and maintain an excellent working relationship with external stakeholders, including local, regional, and national media outlets.
  • Provide support to communications and marketing teams for content development as needed.
  • Willingness to travel to all network sites regularly.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:


  • 4 year / Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related major, required
  • Experience may be considered in lieu of education

Experience:


  • Minimum 3 years experience in media relations, communications, or related field, required
  • Minimum 2 years direct experience in broadcast journalism, required
  • Experience developing and/or producing onair stories, preferred
  • Minimum 1 year experience developing social media content and/or managing social media platforms, preferred
  • Minimum 1 year experience in healthcare media relations or communications, preferred
