- The primary duty of the practitioner is to provide Neurological services in support of the Neurology division and the mission of NWI.
- Evaluate and manage patients with chronic headaches such as migraine and tension-type headaches.
- Serves as the program APRN of the Neurology program.
- The APRN enables the Neurology program to perform well in national and VISN initiatives.
- Provide/direct services as needed to meet the needs of patients within the Neurology department at various sites of care within the health care system.
- Assess, plan, prescribe, implement, and evaluate care of patients using established standards of care in conjunction with designated collaborating physicians.
- Coordinate health services for patients and families with various health care providers to achieve desired patient outcomes. Includes evaluating disorders of the nerves or blood vessels in the head and neck, infections and injuries.
- Documentation of medical care in patient medical records in a clear, concise, accurate, and timely manner to ensure continuity of patient care and fiscal responsibility to the department.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skill in addressing age-specific needs of patients served.
- Maintains clinic schedule and informs proper parties of same. - Continues to attend learning sessions designed to foster better care.
- Maintains a collaborative working relationship with all levels of organizational management.
- Evaluate processes and outcomes of patient care through participation in quality improvement efforts to enhance the delivery of excellent, cost-effective health care.
- Research utilization in clinical practice through participation in the research process; or by keeping abreast of current and new best practice standards of care.

Summary
VA NWIHCS is an integrated system that serves more than 148,000 Veterans in 101 counties in Nebraska, western Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri. It includes a tertiary medical center in Omaha, 2 larger clinics in Lincoln and Grand Island (which includes a Community Living Center), 5 community-based outpatient clinics, and one contract clinic.
Duties
